Default Problem help please

My sputtering is getting worse......when it is sitting normal it doesn't always stay smooth it jumps up and down making a cam like noise. It only does that part of the time,I can deal with that but when I try to take off fast it will climb perfectly through first(I have an auto) then hit second climbs ok but in 3rd it gets to 4K drops down 400 or 500 rpms for 1 second then goes on like normal .It is really annoying. I have a CEL showing for the ICV but will that affect the rpm's climbing?Any suggestions are appreciated, but heres my idea for now.

Change spark plugs, they are 6-8 months old bosch plat 4
I have cleaned the intake out and re oiled it.
What else cheap can I do???

I wouldn't change the plugs again if they are only a few months old. If you suspect they are bad, pull them and inspect.

What does the car do when in park or neutral?

Would that affect it while I'm hitting the gas? That's the main thing I want to fix, I guess I can live with a rough idle for part of the time. How much is a new ICV my mechanic said I'll be paying alot for a new one if cleaning it doesn't work. How close will the m42's ICV be to my M44's ICV as far as location?

Yes throttle position sensor. Mine was bad and when i touched the gas pedal in park or in drive the rpm's dropped almost sounded like it was going to stall. But i never had any problems once up to speed, just from a stand still.

I also had a problem with the camshaft position sensor in mine... It would be fine then it was like i just lost power and then it would be fine then it would keep repeating that... About the position of the ICV i was just talking to one of the BMW techs at work today about mine and asked if M42 and M44 are in the same place under the manifold and he said could not remember but thought they were in the same spot or close

Any sensor in the car will throw a code or should throw a code... If you have any questions let me know and i will do my best to answer them for you and good luck with the cleaning and if you could let me know if that helps

camshaft sensor was 60 bucks it took me about maybe 2-3 for it to get changed, i also have the same problem as the first post. at 3rd gear between around 3800 rpm,, the rpms drop about 400 and keep climbing again,,,, my icv is bad too , but i clean it wiht throttle cleaner once in while.... that should take care of it...

and yes when the camshaft sensor goes bad it throws the CEL..
