I see the light ahead turn yellow and I hit my brakes, knowing there is no way I will make it through. As I come to a stop I sit there and wait for the rest of the traffic to catch up to me and the light to return to it's proper color (green). As I'm impatiently sitting there a blue 1954 Chevy Bel-Air pulls up next to me. I look over and it's a guy who looks to be in his mid twenties. He gives it a rev. I return with a quick jab to the throttle and a smile. It's on. The light turns green and I slip the clutch, but not enough and I bog it. He jumps ahead and puts a few feet between us. My car struggles desperately to keep up, he holds the lead but towards the end of second I begin to pull. I hit 6500 and slam the shifter into third. He gains back a little bit of what he lost when I shift but I start pulling again. We shut it down around 90 mph with my car barely in the lead. My turn is coming up so I slow down and hit my blinker. He gives me a thumbs up and a rev. I give him the thumbs up too and turn into the parking lot. I get out of my car, walk in and somehow manage to clock in 2 minuted early. | | | 03-08-2005, 08:20 PM | #2 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Posts: 30 | LOL ... sweet. If I didnt live in such a traffic infested city at commute hours I would be partaking in such events. Very jealous... I need to start getting to work earlier. >;o) | | | 03-08-2005, 09:17 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Lake George, NY Posts: 338 | do you have any performance mods on your car? | | | 03-08-2005, 10:52 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | Only mod is cutting a hole in my airbox. I was up there about an hour before the shooting started. Pretty freaky. | | | 03-09-2005, 04:12 PM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 10 | damn, that sounded like one hell of a race. I myself have a 1955 chevy bel air and my stock ti has nothing on it. I have a 427 big block in that beast, it moves for a tank. | | | 03-09-2005, 04:34 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Garden City, NY/Daytona Beach, FL Posts: 228 | I took down a Hyundai Slowburon GT the other day, only performance modification being my CAI, which really doesn't do much/anything. I didn't really expect to win, I've been in a friend's before and it felt much faster than my beast. Maybe it was just a really bad driver? I remember a week or so after I got my car I raced what looked to be an early nineties z-28... that was interesting. I think the only reason I came even close to being in eyesight of him was his pity for me, but it was fun nonetheless. __________________ --------------------------------------- '97 Hellrot 318ti - Active, 5 speed 17'' BMW Motorsport Wheels ACS-"Style" (E-Bay, haha) Racing Pedals M Frontspoiler (OEM) Alpine CDA 9827 MP3/CD Head Unit Alpine E12 Subwoofer (now stolen) Audiobahn A4002T Amp (also now stolen) Dented driver side fender (provided courtesy of blind 80 year old woman) Keyed passenger door (provided by someone who likes to key red cars) Soon to come (now that I've graduated and have a real job) S52 Engine Swap!!!
