Default Weird Fuel Gauge/Dim Gauge Cluster

I just realized that my fuel gauge has been acting up. About 1/4 of the time, it will work, and give me the accurate reading, and the rest of the time, it's just nothing. Any suggestions as to what it might be? Checked some fuses, and they all looked fine. Also, my gauge cluster lights are real dim at night. Is there any way to brighten them up even though the knob has already turned them up??
