Default What kind of sick person...

does this?

As you could see, it's not quite finished. Just a little teaser of my halfway polished s52 oil pan. Took about an hour to get where I'm at right now. I'm not going for perfection, just didn't want to throw a nasty ass oil pan on my engine. Of course nobody will ever see it once it's in the car, but I will when I'm doing my oil changes. And yes it will get dirty, but what's an extra 5 minutes of wiping it down while I'm waiting for the oil to drain.

you would cry if you saw my m50 oil pan, just replaced it too, all scratched up, few fins broken off, haha.

Jess - are you using a crank scraper on your setup?

Lol, my original pan had a few hairline cracks and was leaking. Picked this one up for 75 bucks a while back. No cracks, just a lil dirty. What's a crank scraper?

Holy crap, my garage is starting to look like yours! all the way down to the pneumatic garage stool... Which, by the way, shouldn't have an oil pan on the leather seat...

I'd say it's a truly sick mind that does that!

Thanks Harold. The motor's starting to look like a motor again, finally coming together.

Hahaha, That seat is pretty darn comfy James! My Aunt gave it to me for Christmas a couple years ago. The garage is a disaster right now. I need to spend an afternoon putting things back in order.I'm sure yours is much cleaner.

I'm scratching my head now, wondering what the heck is a crank scraper is

Oh, and trust me, my garage is bad now... To make it worse it's just a one car garage that hasn't had a car in it since 2003...

Cool thanks for the link James. IIRC, my engine does have an integrated baffle/crank scraper. It looks like an OEM part.

you sure do like polishing stuff, I don't think anyone's going to have a shinier engine than you once you're done

Jess, this engine is going to look AMAZING. I'm jealous, I wish I had the time to clean up my motor like this and have it hang on the stand for a while. I'd LOVE to do it. I tried to get dad to before we dropped the diesel into his truck, but he said f-it, it's not a show truck (which is very true). I vote this one turns to a coffee table, and you get a new dirty one for the car

You've been saying this a lot lately.

You might be insane.

But, it could be the good kind of insane.

Here's how things are currently looking. Had to scuff the m50 manifold to prep it for another coat of silver after which I'll probably shoot a coat of clear. Crank and water pump pulleys are mounted as well as the valve cover. New gasket went on relatively smooth with no hassles. I RTV'd the corners and torqued everything to spec. Actually 89 inch lbs didn't quite seem tight enough so I went ahead and torqued it to 100. 11 inch lbs isn't that much of a difference, I just don't want it to leak.Tried to get a couple shots of the oil pan in the sun, but they didn't really turn out very well. Still not finished with it, had a lot of other stuff to do today. I know how much you guys like pics, sorry these aren't all that great:

Edit; oh yeah, two of the vanos mounting studs stuck out really far and looked ugly, so I cut them off and grinded them down. I'm also going to remove the engine hoist eyelet once the motor is installed as it's not really attractive and doesn't have a purpose. It unbolts from the thermostat housing and the vanos housing, so I'll just remove it and toss it in my toolbox.
