Default Bonnet/Hood Struts

Hi, was warned when I bought my Ti at the weekend that the struts dont hold the bonnet up any more. Is this a common failure? Most cars over here have a metal bar which you use to prop up the open bonnnet, but I guess gas struts are cooler.

Is it a relatively easy fix, or will the whole bonnet need to come off? Also which service manual do I need? I cant find a haynes manual which covers the compacts?

Thanks,

Martin

It is a common issue with these cars, and it is an easy fix. The hood (bonnet) will not need to come off, you will just need something or someone to hold it open when you put in new ones...

Get the Bentley Manual for the BMW e36's. There isn't a separate manual for our compacts, but this one is the best and will cover 99% of repairs and fixes.

Enjoy your ti!
