Saw my first BMW police car yesterday afternoon, looked like a 3 series. Not too sure how many states have them as i have never seen one before. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 09-10-2007, 10:02 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | That is interesting. I didn't know that BMW did fleet sales in the US. Although it is common for police to use confiscated cars for special purposes. I see that it is leading a pack of bicycles so I wonder if maybe it is a community service type of vehicle. They have a corvette, a viper, and a porsche in the local sheriffs department. They take them around to their public relations events. I don't think they actually patrol in them though. | | | 09-10-2007, 10:31 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Los Alamos, NM Posts: 344 | that's a 5 series. You can tell by the trunk. | | | 09-10-2007, 11:05 PM | #4 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Yes it was some kind of bike race going on. I saw it coming and normally i wouldn't but i took a pic of it only cause i thought that was odd. In Hawaii the police use there own vehcles to patrol, so you see mustangs, vettes, explores etc... I think more than half the force does that which is kind of cool in a way. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 09-28-2007, 02:05 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: Honolulu, HI Posts: 133 | We have at least one here on Oahu, I live in Kahala just to the left, out of sight on your photo Tyler and it is a 5 series. On my street there is a HPD substation, that's the area I see the car. At first I thought it could not be a BMW, it must be a new Infinity, but it is definitely a 5er! | | | 09-28-2007, 05:20 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | at the 06 chicago car show toyota had a cop car camary. but damn! i think that it might just happen to be a patrol car. __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 09-28-2007, 08:03 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Chicago, IL USA Posts: 58 | Quote: Originally Posted by kickass95318ti at the 06 chicago car show toyota had a cop car camary. but damn! i think that it might just happen to be a patrol car. | i saw that car at the show! its looked pretty kool, better then the lame-o impalas and crown vics they are currently driving in. and yeah i really think the BMW patrol car in question is a 5-series not only the trunk, but the body panels are way too long for it to be a 3-series. | | | 09-28-2007, 01:21 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 402 | I wonder if it's a confiscated drug car? I know that in quite a few areas in the country, cars that are confiscated in drug raids are used for pseudo-police cars. It's supposed to send a message out to the other drug-lords that "we pwnz u". __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
