Default euro 6 speed transmission q

Just wanted to get a feeler on this one. Is $$1800.00 + my transmission as a trade a good deal for a euro 6 speed, supposedly in good shape? I think I can get a e46 6 speed for less, but I'm not too sure.
Thanks,
Chris

Daaaang they've always been pretty expensive, but 1800 plus your old tranny is pretty steep. You could probably get a used one imported for less than that. Ask yourself how much it's worth to you to have an extra overdrive gear, and that's how much you should spend. How much of your commute would REALLY benefit from a sixth gear? How long would it take to justify the swap in gas/oil savings? @ $3gal, it would probably take 5 years or more to save $1800 considering the mpg you'd gain.

I think that price is steep, but euro 6 speeds are kinda rare so I really don't know what the going rate is on them. I know I can get a good e46 6 speed transmission for ~$1500 outright and maybe even less if I looked hard enough.
Now maybe if I could convince the guy to throw in the clutch, drive shaft, shifter linkage... then maybe 1600+trade? I would need all of that stuff to do the swap anyhow and he couldn't use it with my transmission so it would only make sense to do it that way (trying to build a case)...

There is no way I could really justify installing one of these other than to say I would like to have one. My car is kind of a garage queen and with the current tune and 3.25 ratio diff it gets horrible gas mileage. I've never calculated it but it probably gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-23 mpg. My trip computer is reading like 48mpg and continues to climb but I think the chip or the 413 ecu is not translating that data to the trip computer correctly for some reason. It runs really good so that is all that I care about.

The real advantage to a 6 speed is the ability to run a higher numerical final drive without suffering from decreased top speed and fuel economy.

The euro 6 speeds have the same ratios in gears 1-5 as the stock US 5 speeds. 5th gear is 1:1 and 6th is overdrive. I think 1600 is right on, do it and step up to a 3:73 or higher final drive, your car will be faster and rarer and I doubt you will suffer from buyer's remorse.

The OBC can be adjusted for some variance to reflect more accurate MPG ratings, but not enough for a swap. There is a chip / circuit board available for around $100 that will do the compensation and correct the numbers (Clex2 has it installed), but I haven't been able to justify buying it yet...

I have seen euro 6-speed trans selling for as high as $3000 here in NorCal, so $1600 doesn't seem too outragous, but I am happy with my lower ratio (2.93) med case diff for now as I commute quite a bit in my ti...

I'd love a 6th gear in mine, although I love the sound of the M44, the noise from the engine revving at 4000-4500k when cruising can get tiring on really long runs, especially since we have a lot of very noisy road surfaces in the UK compared to elsewhere in Europe.
