Got pics to post? I am working on a custom-fit subwoofer enclosure to go in the rear passenger side of the car utilizing the corner cubby bin as a means of stabilizing and mounting the box. I am using fiberglass and some MDF to build the enclosure and it should include a small rectangular mounting point for the amplifier. I'd be running a 10-inch sub. I am currently using a Bazooka tube with an amp mounted to a flat vinyl-wrapped MDF board that snugs in behind the back seat and the rear strut towers. Functionally OK sound-wise and looks OK too, however, I would prefer to have the set-up out of the way so I can occasionally fold down the rear seats to haul larger stuff around. What's anyone else here done? I am curious whether you upholstered (carpet or vinyl) or if you went with the smoothe color-matched painited finish? __________________ red '96 BMW 318ti -- 25K orig miles white '72 VW Beetle -- owned since 1987 | | | 10-28-2006, 09:15 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Portland Oregon Posts: 1,363 | Well give us a step by step, I want to do something along the lines of that. | | | 10-28-2006, 12:51 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: blah blah Posts: 55 | __________________ '98 ti avus blue sport / m tech trim / stock M44 / real carbon fiber dash kit / m pedals / One piece head lights / cali top / custom 10" sub box / 10" xtant sub / xtant 1.1i amp / passenger side 7" screen installed in sun visor / pioneer avic-n1 / 18" mille miglia 11-3 / black m3 vader seats/ Welsh Royals/ http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35...1aroyalcar.gif | | | 10-28-2006, 04:05 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Tampa, FL Posts: 677 | I want to do the same thing with my ti __________________ my new world | | | 10-28-2006, 04:13 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmwracerchick I want to do the same thing with my ti | Im with her^^^ but i have other things that need to be fixed on Blue first __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-28-2006, 11:36 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i wanted to do that for a while...but i just have a normal box....and take em out if i need to haul something around or if i am autocrossing. doesnt look as good as a custom box, but i imagine its easier to take out...and it costed a whole lot less (free from a freind) __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 10-29-2006, 12:36 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Portland Oregon Posts: 1,363 | Quote: Originally Posted by C4-C | WOW how much did that cost??? Rather than build this in the car, I made a MDF template to then glass over. These photos were snapped right after I cut the fiberglass off of the mold. (Like the clothes washer "workbench"?) This'll be the base of the fiberglass and MDF enclosure like the ones others have done in prior photos in this thread. This one includes filling in the rear cubby hole for additional stability (and a mounting point) and box volume. This is the shot of the bottom side of the base, including the portion that slips down into the cubby hole. The next step will be to add more glass to the inside of the base and then build the "walls" inside the car. I'd then sandwich these pieces together to provide the supporting structure for an amp mount and the sub ring. __________________ red '96 BMW 318ti -- 25K orig miles white '72 VW Beetle -- owned since 1987 | | | 10-29-2006, 09:34 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | i got one on the other side to that will get a pic up tomorow | | | 10-29-2006, 09:38 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | | | | 10-29-2006, 10:59 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Very cool, is this template reusable?
