Default custom fiberglass subwoofer box

Anyone here done it yet? Got pics to post?

I am working on a custom-fit subwoofer enclosure to go in the rear passenger side of the car utilizing the corner cubby bin as a means of stabilizing and mounting the box.

I am using fiberglass and some MDF to build the enclosure and it should include a small rectangular mounting point for the amplifier. I'd be running a 10-inch sub.

I am currently using a Bazooka tube with an amp mounted to a flat vinyl-wrapped MDF board that snugs in behind the back seat and the rear strut towers. Functionally OK sound-wise and looks OK too, however, I would prefer to have the set-up out of the way so I can occasionally fold down the rear seats to haul larger stuff around.

What's anyone else here done? I am curious whether you upholstered (carpet or vinyl) or if you went with the smoothe color-matched painited finish?

i wanted to do that for a while...but i just have a normal box....and take em out if i need to haul something around or if i am autocrossing. doesnt look as good as a custom box, but i imagine its easier to take out...and it costed a whole lot less (free from a freind)

It doesn't need park distance control, and hates decadence. It is musclepacked, yet lightly wound. It lets you feel the asphalt and get you going with the smallest touch of the pedal. It provokes, seduces, and demands to be driven hard. It looks, sounds, and smells like performance.

Default here's where I am so far

I admit, at this stage with masking still on it and no sanding, this looks kinda rustic. Rather than build this in the car, I made a MDF template to then glass over. These photos were snapped right after I cut the fiberglass off of the mold. (Like the clothes washer "workbench"?)

This'll be the base of the fiberglass and MDF enclosure like the ones others have done in prior photos in this thread. This one includes filling in the rear cubby hole for additional stability (and a mounting point) and box volume.

This is the shot of the bottom side of the base, including the portion that slips down into the cubby hole.

The next step will be to add more glass to the inside of the base and then build the "walls" inside the car. I'd then sandwich these pieces together to provide the supporting structure for an amp mount and the sub ring.

Very cool, is this template reusable? It might be valuable to make a few and sell em!

i have 2 x 10" stealth boxes either side on my compact with a toolkit well mounted amp. looks v.nice (i will post pics next time i put them back in, they have velcro strips). but i would not recommend this if your car is lowered like mine. they're way too heavy. they put too much weight behind the back wheels which is a nightmare with no LSD, ive spun it twice with them in. they also cause sagging/scrubbing under acceleration and bottoming out over bumps.

i'm actually going to sell the set up soon as i hardly ever put the boxes in.
