OK, got the engine the rest of the way out of the car this weekend. Pulled the oil pan to take a closer look at what went wrong. It looks like it was a failure of one of the Rod bolts. It looks like the bolt snaped then the Rod cap was rattling arround. There was all kinds of metal down in the pan from everything blowing apart. I did find small pieces of the Rod, but not anything larger than a quarter. I will post pics a little later today.

are the m44 know for throwing rods?

do you drive your car like your racing?

I don't think there are any major mechanical issues with the M44, however - there is allway the one in the bunch that could. The engine had just over 140K. I do drive fairly hard, but not like I am racing. I think it was just it's time.
