Tried to no avail | | | 12-02-2013, 09:35 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | That's some good progress. I need to do the same to mine this summer. How many miles are on your car and how are the bushings back there? What brand aftermarket bushings did you go with; IE or AKG? For getting the halfshaft bolts off, I would say to hit the bolts with some penetrating oil and then the impact wrench. | | | 12-02-2013, 09:47 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Sag Harbor, NY Posts: 192 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy That's some good progress. AKG all the way, I will try the penetrating oil, tied the impact | | | 12-02-2013, 11:50 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | Could you expand on the RTABS and subframe bushings? Are the subframe bushings completely cracked so that the metal sleeve can come out? Or is there just a bit of deflection? Do the RTABs also have a lot of deflection? | | | 12-03-2013, 12:25 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Sag Harbor, NY Posts: 192 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy Could you expand on the RTABS and subframe bushings? You could drain the diff and pop the stub axles out if there is enough play in the cv joints. Or unbolt the diff from the subframe if there isn't enough play. Or make something that bolts to the input flange that can hold itself against the trailing arm while you go after the axle bolts with a nice breaker bar/impact. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-03-2013, 01:24 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Sag Harbor, NY Posts: 192 | all apart now, diff is in the drain pan, opened and ready for new seals and bearings. just have to remove axles from hub, don't have the right socket for the axle bolt | | | 12-03-2013, 09:20 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Sag Harbor, NY Posts: 192 | | | | 12-04-2013, 03:26 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Montreal Posts: 283 | Removing everything is the easy part, great project! Obviously handling will improve with the bigger sway bar and new parts. Just wondering what the goal is? Wish I had your confidence to just go for it like that. | | | 12-05-2013, 01:04 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Sag Harbor, NY Posts: 192 | I had a 2" drop already, too low, going back up a small bit, still 1.4" below stock. the goal is handling, and overall just replacing things that are old.
