Weren't the Escorts and Cortinas of that generation basically the same car? I know the very early Cortinas came with the same 1.6L Ford motor that was in a Pinto I had in high school (how cool was I in High School?
). The 2.0L Pinto motors, aside from some of the cylinder head shortcomings, are solid German motors that one can reasonably squeeze close to 200 HP out of when built right (a pretty impressive feat for a SOHC, Carbureted, 40+ year old design).
