Thats a mk2 escort, and i think it was a pinto... could have been a duratec, red top vauxhall or a honda lump i guess. they are all using them at the moment.

Looks like fun. The red Ti has what I'm assuming is an Audi 90 spoiler?

I know for sure that the blue one has been about for 4 or 5 years now. And I have been involved with rallying (proper rallying not rally cross) for about the same amount of time. the last 2 or 3 years with e30's and e36's.

328i e36 have gone up around £500 in value since that episode of top gear!

Could well be, though it is supposed to be standard ti stuff on a ti. the scrutineers can get a bit upset about these things.

Weren't the Escorts and Cortinas of that generation basically the same car? I know the very early Cortinas came with the same 1.6L Ford motor that was in a Pinto I had in high school (how cool was I in High School? ). The 2.0L Pinto motors, aside from some of the cylinder head shortcomings, are solid German motors that one can reasonably squeeze close to 200 HP out of when built right (a pretty impressive feat for a SOHC, Carbureted, 40+ year old design).
