Kinda disappointing it's a 1.6 though. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-12-2009, 03:09 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96cali So what's the story behind this car? I'd imagine servicing the car is difficult because most dealers will not bring in non-US spec parts anymore. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-12-2009, 05:31 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: new jersey Posts: 13 | I have been wondering how much it would be to ship a 316ti from Germany to here, does anyone know? Don't want to hurt the sale, but why bring a 316ti and not a 323ti? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-12-2009, 09:26 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I'd love this car! I'm not scared-off by the 1.6 at all. So this is good-to-go for ownership in the USA? I wouldn't need to still pay the Feds $10,000 (or whatever) for their approval? | | | 08-12-2009, 09:37 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | There is no way this car is legal in the US. Steven is right, it needs to be federalized and that would not be cheap. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-12-2009, 09:59 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Not always true, there have been many gray market cars that avoided federalization though I have no idea how. If I were to buy this I would pay the owner to register and plate it and THEN transfer the title. Once titled and plated it can go anywhere especially if they don't check emissions (like Cincinnati Campaiar!). __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-12-2009, 10:02 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri There is no way this car is legal in the US. The next owner I think was a member here. Was imported from Italy IIRC. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-12-2009, 10:06 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by ti me down topaz blue, grey cloth, 5spd, ac, 6cd, pwr windows, mirrors, and keyless... that's about it! 151k in km's, rear fogs, headlight adjusters, came from spain, has customs release and all euro paperwork. had cali plates and reg, never titled here, tho. piece of cake to register in many states. i have no pics yet. if you're hot for it, email me- whatbmw at yahoo... i'm rarely on this board anymore, eventhough i still have 2 dasc 5spd ti's! in fact, it had been so long since i had been here, my post count reverted to zero, and said my last visit was in 1969... i was in diapers then! btw, price not in stone- gauging interest, but i'd sell it tomorrow for the right offer! | If it was never titled in the US, is the VIN registered in the US? What's the VIN? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-12-2009, 10:23 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | How does registering a "foregin" car in a US state relate to getting a car titled in a US state. And why was it not titled in California? And what exactly is a "customs release"? So many questions! | | | 08-12-2009, 10:34 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by CirrusSR22 How does registering a "foregin" car in a US state relate to getting a car titled in a US state. They must type in the VIN at the DMV and either the car "exists" or it doesn't? | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
