Fist i got a check engine light that i thought was due to the new O2 sensors i had installed. Instead of getting the same code i was getting that said i need to change the O2 sensors, I got P1423. it said somethng about emissions. Before i went to autozone to rent the code scanner i heard this hissing noise coming from the engine bay. So i took a look and found out that a hose had a tear on it. The hose I'm talking about is this one. Also can anyone tell me where this hose goes to and does? I tried looking for it at realoem, but couldn't find the diagram. For now i have covered the tear with electrical tape. It's a temporary fix until i buy a new hose. Is there anyway that the torn hose made the check engine light come on. Or am I dealing with two different issues. When the guy at autozone check it for me he said he got the code P1453 and its states "Secondary Air injection Pump relay control circuit electrical". But when i scanned it i got P1423, i didn't get to write down the message but its said something with emissions. So far it hasn't come back on but just incase i want to know what the issue could be. | | | 12-08-2008, 02:23 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | i got that a while ago. it has to do with the secondary air pump. i havent really fixed the issue. but what i have done for a while is to just let the car warm up a lil' before driving off when its cold and the light doesnt come back on if you've rested the CEL light. i dont know what causes it... none of my hoses are broken, but that same hose you pictured is old and started to show signs of being worn out. it might be the hoses that may have a crack somewhere that makes it loose pressure?? i dont know. just guessing. but update me if you resolve the issue. yeah? oh if you can find the problem, just sell me your motor. lol. jk. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! I'm going to order if off pelican with a bunch of other stuff i had in mind of getting. Marv i guess you got your answer about the fix. As for the motor, do a swap and have Jess help you out. For right now i don't want any more issues with the car. | | | 12-08-2008, 05:49 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Bethlehem, PA Posts: 1,106 | hey, you guys might have just saved me a ton of money. i thought it was my cat or 02 sensors at first, but i am not sure. i have a reader that reads all the sensors on my laptop, and both senors are giving back live readings (but i cant tell weather the info is correct or not anyway... haha) also, i cant tell if the cat is bad, but it is throwing a CEL effeicenecy code. now i have taken it to other places BEFORE i bought my own laptop code reader, and they had NO idea what the code was. some coudlnt read it, some said airbags, and other said other things. i was the only one that got a Cat below threshold code. there are a millions sounds comming from my engine bay, (im sure that cant be good) but for some reason , when i saw the picture of that air vavle, it rung a bell in my mind.. for some reason i think i heard it making funny sounds before, like sucking air. i will test it out tomorrow, maybe it will be a cheaper fix compared to a new cat + O2 sensors.. haha.. | | | 12-08-2008, 06:55 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | I also replaced my cat and O2 sensors. I bought a used cat since the price of an OE cat is ridiculous. You will have install it yourslef since shops will not install a used cat. | | | 12-09-2008, 06:20 PM | #9 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Dave the Secondary Air pump is absolutely emissions related. It pumps air to the cat for the first 30 seconds after startup when the engine is cold. A bad or non functioning secondary air pump probably killed your cat in the first place. The part pictured isn't the secondary air pump. It's the secondary air pump check valve. The secondary air pump is located on the other side of the engine bay by the alternator. Follow the hard plastic line from that check valve and you'll find the secondary air pump. When you start your car up in the morning, have your hood open and take a look in there. You should be able to hear the secondary air pump running(ONLY FOR THE FIRST 30 SECONDS OR SO). Poke your hand in there and see if you could feel any leaks. If yours isn't turning on, you probably have a bad fuse or relay or the pump itself might be unplugged or have a broken wire. You should not hear any hissing from that check valve. If you do, try to locate with your hand where exactly the hissing is coming from. It sounds like you might have a bad secondary air injection solenoid valve. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 12-10-2008, 12:47 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | It's just the hose that tore up. Everything else seems to be working. The tape seems to be holding up for now. I'm ordering a new hose so that could replace it. Should i just replace the entire thing right now? | | | 12-10-2008, 01:01 AM | #11 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Could you hear the pump turn on? Feel any leaks? I'm wondering if that check valve is even opening, afterall, you did need to replace your cat right. I'd hate for the cat & o2 sensors that I sent you to get messed up if in fact this is what caused the original cat to fail. The secondary air pump is the pancake shaped part directly behind the airbox. There's a big rubber hose going from the pump to the airbox and a hard plastic hose going from the pump to the check valve on the other side of the engine bay. You should be able to hear/feel if the pump is turning on like it should(first startup in the morning for about 30 seconds) and if it's leaking. Sometimes, the rivets that hold the pump together break, allowing it to leak. If that's not the case, you may have a bad check valve or a bad solenoid. The torn hose, may be the culprit, but I doubt it. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
