Didnt really think about it. orderded new y pipe, and a new thermostat. Put everything in today, filled it with coolant. Turned the car on with the bleeder screw off. its doing its thing. i look at the temp, its on the halfway mark, the fan kicked on, but the upper hose is alot hotter then the bottom hose, and i'm getting no heat from the heater. This is leading me to suspect my heater core may be plugged, which is why the y pipe broke in the first place. it was building up pressure becasue it couldent fully circulate thru the motor. Any other imput on this? I'm going to try to flush it tonight, but i wanted to see if anybody else had a similar problem, i see that bmw's have a plethra of cooling problems. thanks. | | | 09-02-2010, 06:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | The upper is the input to the rad, the lower is the return. It should be cooler. I would try bleeding it some more, and leave the bleeder in. Let the system build pressure and force the air to the rad. Then you crack the bleeder, see what comes out, close it, repeat until no air comes out. You also want to have the heat on while bleeding the system. __________________ No more ti. | | | 09-02-2010, 07:33 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: New York Posts: 188 | i know the upper will be hotter then the lower, but i'd say it was at least 80deg difference between the two. ill try bleeding it like that. i had the heater on the entire time, and i got no heat from it. how much pressure should build? should the hoses get so much pressure in them that i cant squeeze them? i figured the rad cap would relive it before then but didnt. | | | 10-18-2010, 10:54 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2010 Location: South Beach Posts: 5 | Same thing happened to me sorta, but... Hi guys. I have a '98 ti 5/spd built on 12/97. I got the car in '02 with a little over 10k miles. It now has almost 55k. A few days ago it was pouring rain late at night coming home from work and when I got home and parked in my space, I had to wait for the rain to stop. I was just sitting in my car with the A/C on talking on the phone when I heard a loud blast sound and steam came out from the engine bay in every direction. I shut motor off immediately! I figured I blew something and I would deal with it some other time since I have two other cars any way. I already knew I had to change the hoses (and a list of things) since they were the original from factory and I had already started to get the items needed before this happened. PERFECT TIMING! So now I was just wondering after reading the OP dilema with his heater: I live in Miami and have NEVER used the heater. Can I eliminate it and the two plastic pipes on side and rear of block along with the other hoses? Can I just cap off the bottom end of the rad under collant tank and those two openings for the engine block on side and rear? I would like to prevent the failure of this item since I don't need it and avoid future headaches by making it easier to deal with the cooling system. | | | 10-20-2010, 11:35 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by X-1 Hi guys. Someone else might know different but I don't think you can. You can block the heater off if you want. I also believe there is a heat function to the intake manifold to warm the intake and help atomize fuel which is suppose to help with drivability but also hurts performance in high temp climates like Florida... | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
