I am considering up-grading the sound system in my 95 318TI. I would like to change out the stock speakers, add a sub, and new power amp. I am hoping to be able to keep the stock head unit and cd changer. I have a BMW Pioneer cd changer part number 82 11 1 467 725. the build date of the car is 11/95. I am not looking to make a "ground pounder" I just want it to sound better. any advice? | | | 03-26-2006, 02:50 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Plano Texas Posts: 206 | Change the head unit, the stock one sucks. __________________ K&N Cone Filter with Heat Shield, Racing Dynamics Strut bar, Blisten yellow sport suspension, Clears all around, Angel eyes, Dinan Engine Chip, Infinity BassLink 10" Sub, Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel | | | 03-26-2006, 03:10 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Washington DC, Pittsburgh PA Posts: 81 | Indeed, the stock one does suck. | | | 03-26-2006, 03:23 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: boston Posts: 142 | well if you dont change it, you can get some rca cables, splice them and hook them up to the speaker wires. Bam you wires for your amp.. | That is possibly the worst advice I have ever heard. rca cables for in car use are used to carry low voltage. The highest I have seen a headunit put out on its pre outs was 5.5, and the majority are either 4 or 2volts. If you dont want to replace the head unit but get much better quality sound, get an amp that can take "high level inputs", then you can run the speaker wiring straight into the amp. There is little point in upgrading to a much better headunit if you are not going to amplify it properly, as the amps inside headunits are about the size of a small matchbox and even the more powerful headunits that demand their own power supply put out a max of 27wrms x 4 at 4ohms and cannot be bridged. | | | 03-27-2006, 02:49 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: boston Posts: 142 | he said he want to keep his head unit.. ok, then.... You can buy a amp that you can wirer in your speaker wires to it. It will have rca input and wires.... my Alpine V12 had them... __________________ HIOP TWINSCREW w/aftercooler water to air, 3.73 lsd, ported headdone, performence valve springs w/titanium retainersinstalled..nitrous kitinstalled fun fun X brace installed5th injector w/ piggyback controler, high flow cat | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
