Default which ac compressor?

I took the clutch off my ac compressor last night and it's shot, as well as the compressor seal leaking. So I'm going to need a new compressor. But as I search, I find that some are denso and some are seiko. Is there a difference? Can I use either? Does anyone know? Do I have to replace it with the same brand as I had on the car? Or will any brand do?

Pelican parts says behr, oem, or denso will fit. Apparently its not brand specific?

I bought a used one from a low mileage car being parted out. 100k miles and it still works.

Make sure it is 318TI specific or the mounts and the hose fittings will not fit.

Thanks for the reply! The one I have on my car might be the original oem BMW compressor. I can't find out who manufactured them. Talked to Pelican Parts and they say all the model specific compressors will work. The only problem I have with a used Compressor is that it's a used-up kind of part. it has friction plates which makes it like brakes or clutches. Found a Denso brand new for only 185. Just looking for longevity.

I think my 1996 has the Seiko Seiki compressor.
I have 265k miles on my 1996 and if I buy a new one, it may outlast the car. LOL.

You may be able to find a replacement clutch and seal kit.

I looked into it. But the cost would be a considerable part of a new compressor. The Denso I bought was only 185 shipped. And that was new.
