There's a thin battery looking sensor inside the left air duct for the brakes on the sport models. Anyone knows what that is? I realoem'd it...no luck. tx | | | 07-05-2010, 08:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | there is a sensor in each duct, one for the OBC reading, and one for the cooling fan sensor, IIRC __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I don't believe I have the right one (when facing the car) On the left I have the battery looking one, which one is that? Is it #3, and what the hell is a Gong? I'm going to assume that the gong is there to make some sort of noise when certain things happen with the OBC. Maybe when it reaches a certain temperature? Maybe somebody that has the OBC can help us out. | | | 07-10-2010, 12:54 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | the "gong" looks similar to the door chime mounted under the dash, I took mine out because it's annoying | | | 07-10-2010, 01:42 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bullmand I don't have the OBC, so I don't have any of this stuff. Posts: 3,156 | And the 'battery looking' sensor is the outside temperature sensor. It is used by the DME to determine oxygen content (along with data from air mass sensor). Hot air is less dense, so less oxygen per cubic foot. Cold air the oposite. Need to know temperature AND volume for a good calculation... | | | 07-18-2010, 01:20 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Quote: Originally Posted by J!m And the 'battery looking' sensor is the outside temperature sensor. The one that measures air temp for the DME is in the lid of the airbox. | | | 07-19-2010, 01:11 PM | #10 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | I have it (had both) but have no OBC, nor did I ever have an OBC (I bought the car new). It is the only air temp sensor on my car now with the 3.2. | | | 07-19-2010, 07:43 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | That's weird. AFAIK, I don't have this particular sensor in my car. I bought it new without the OBC. I'll have to double check later today. I know for certain that there's one in the airbox on mine. Maybe they're just redundant and either one will work but it is a different part number for the one in the airbox. #11 in the diagram. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...17&hg=13&fg=20 | | | 07-19-2010, 08:03 PM | #12 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Just to clarify: The ti has the temp sensor in the air box. The M3 does not have the temp sensor in the air box. | | | 07-20-2010, 01:44 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | I thought we were talking about tis?!?! I've been poring over the parts diagrams and wiring diagrams for the last 45 minutes and I reread the original question and here's what I've decided I think I know. To answer ti_guy's original question - I have no idea what that is. I didn't pay enough attention to what you were saying and jumped right to the conclusion that we were talking about the OBC sensor. wolferj is probably on track with the cooling fan sensor, but I can't find that on realoem.com. The thin pointy sensor in the driver's side duct is called sensor, outdoor temperature and is only for the OBC as near as I can tell. I don't have one in my car and the wiring diagrams only show that going to the OBC. The one in the airbox is called temperature sensor, air and that signal goes to the DME in the wiring diagrams. None of that answers ti_guy's question so I apologize for getting us off-topic. So, what's the funny looking flat one in the passenger side duct? | | | 07-20-2010, 01:13 PM | #14 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | For 1998 ti: Pin 16 of the DME goes to X6205, pin 1 (B6205 "Intake Air Temperature Sensor") and pin 2 goes to ground. Location of B6205 is "LH side of engine"; diagram shows it as being in the front of the air box. This is for intake air temperature. (#11 in the diagram posted by Bullmand) Pin 8 of the OBC goes to X770 Pin 1 (B21 "on-board computer temperature sensor") and pin 2 goes to ground. It is located "in the engine compartment lower LH side of engine compartment" This is for things like "road freezing" warnings. Hope that helps. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
