Default Craigslist find -> E36 Alpina touring!

Thought I would share this.

As a bad habit I routinely search craigslist for e36/e30/z3 parts, stuff, etc.

This time I saw a car for sale I have NEVER seen before:

Crazy!

Very cool, but definitely not legal. Stay far away.

Not legal needs to be 20 years for customs and 25 for emissions. Might be here under show car status which would make it legal to drive less than 4K miles a year I believe but that number might be higher or lower now. Not sure.

I thought the same thing, at first I completely missed that, but then on the second look I was a bit surprised. I think this person just sees the car as something of value, not necessarily an enthusiast.

That makes sense, I guess since its been 20 years it might clear customs but not emissions yet, unless it can be retrofitted with CA smog equipment? I mean it is just a modified m52 - kinda like a S52 is.

I would want to see legitimate registered importer paperwork with sign off's before I purchased it.

I don't know much about this car in terms of it's mods. (what makes it so desirable besides the trim and wheels) but I think if it was registered in Canada, and there was a comparable US model it isn't hard to register. This is what I've been told. Never done it.

Does Alpina beef up the 2.8's then? Can we speculate here what the selling price might be?

Its kind of like a special Alpina tuned bmw, kind of how the ///M division would take BMW's models, tune them, with trim, engine, wheels, suspension, brakes etc and put their badge on it, at first ///M division wasn't a part of BMW. (I am totally shooting off the top of my head so someone can correct me if I am wrong!)

Alpina cars were more "cruiser"ish than the regular ones BMW models with typical more HP, trim, suspension, wheels etc. While the ///M models were more top of the line performance models. (Look it up for more accurate info! There is information out there about all of this!)

For example in the above mentioned e36 wagon (part of the speciality/rarity is that it is a WAGON!!!! We never got wagons in the U.S.) the m52 was modded by Alpina to put out 240hp. (kind of like our s52, but I don't think there was a displacement increase) I think this combo of wagon + Alpina e36 only had like 147?? or 137??? something like that models made in the world.

Value wise, it depends on the person but if you look at that he wants to trade it for, maybe that will help determine what he sees it is worth.

https://www.alpina-automobiles.com/e...-3-series-e36/

Woah!! I just checked the Alpina site with models, the link is above, it doesn't look like they made a B6 wagon? Only sedan, coupe and convertible ? ??

Now I am confused.

This one: http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/wag...6-2-8-touring/ seems like the same one too?

Ah never mind, clarity on the B6 touring:

Here is a brief article from 2014 and looks like the same car.

http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/wag...6-2-8-touring/

https://www.alpina-automobiles.com/e...-3-series-e36/

It sold for 14K in 2014 according to germancarblog and it's listed in alpina archives.

Think of it as a 2.8 M52 that makes 240 hp via custom pistions and camshafts and tuning. It did not get a displacement increase so how it drives with our crappy fuel that is a question for buyer.

Lol, perfect timing seems like we both found the same sources via google.

I had seen the car awhile back and remembered it. I would want to see legal importation documenting it before I spent the money.

This car is not legal even though it might be "legally registered and titled" in oregon. I will guarantee you he does not have all the paperwork from customs to make this car federally legal. It is also not here on show and display because in order to do that it needs to be on this list https://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/imp...list040109.pdf . Basically you could buy this car and title it in whatever state you want since it has an oregon title but you will always be looking over your shoulder because if for some reason customs decides it wants to come for your car they will take it and crush it(no they will not allow you to export it back out of the country)
