Exclamation BMW NA loses 370+ cars at NEAT! NOOOO!!!

The Courage tipped today at the port in Jersey City causing major damage to over 300 BMWs not including 70+ BMWs that were total losses.

a majority of the destroyed vehicles were M3s (mostly in dark blue) with a variety of 3ers and 1ers smashed up as well. A small number of the cars destroyed had German Tourist plates on them, those European delivery customers will NOT be getting their cars back.

If you were expecting your M3 or e90/92 in the next month, you're going to be in for a sad surprise.

those cars that were a total loss will be crushed, I asked a BMW rep, he stated that they will not be auctioned as there is a liability for letting those cars on the road. The shipping company's insurance is footing the bill, I do not know how they will handle those cars that are already owned by the European Delivery customers.

Those cars with light damage will be repaired at the Elizabeth Receiving facility and sold through BMW's dealer network as new cars.

this is why i hate boats!

seems to me they'd want to recover as much money as possible by selling whatever parts are still good out of the "totaled" ones. i would love to try to fit some 1er sport seats in the TI

i would NOT be a happy camper if my "new" car was one of these that was repaired ... unless i was aware of it and there was a discount. if they don't disclose, i would think they would be open for a lawsuit.

i really hope they do something with those. they should at least auction off them as destructed and not for road use. like parts only! or give them to all the 318ti.org supporting members!

what a disaster!

It is actually up to the insurer what happens to the cars.

It would be sweet to have a few dozen parts cars laying around.

Wow... I guess loading/unloading ships is pretty tricky business. I wonder how much a ship would have to tilt for cars to slide sideways? I bet there were many trousers full of poop on that day.

i'm not the original source i got this off bf.c

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...2#post11757772

i don't think they would give the "totalled" cars to anyone. that just really sucks that this had to happen to bmw or anyother manufacture for that matter.

That's horrible, I want to cry

Can't they at least sell me the rims before they crush the cars?

Yeah I was thinking about the wheels too, I mean, water isnt going to hurt them.

That really sucks and is hard to look at.

Water? It looks like most of them were damaged by being slammed against the car next to it. did any of them actually get wet?

yeah i think they were all just smahed into each other. the ship didnt sink or completely tip but went over enough to have the cars slide into each other.

i wonder if they will go to higher measures of securing each car now?

like strap each one down so they wont go ANYWHERE!
