Default Weird sticker on DME

I pulled out the engine today as phase 1 of the M52 swap.

My existing DME has what appears to be some type of aftermarket label on it (I think ).

I can't read anything on it except that it says ECU #1500. The car shows signs of being cared for at some point in its life (not by the previous owner) as it has a nice Supersprint Exhaust on it.

Anyone recognize the tag and what if anything it means?

Thanks!

Glenn

Indeed. If you can find a manufacture date (perhaps the 950518?) or week, you can compare that against the car's build week. The original part and car are usually in pretty close sequence.

I am finding a couple of interesting things on the car now that I am tearing into it. It has a replacement BMW driveshaft as well that is dated from 1999. Odd that it needed a replacement after only 4 years.

Everyone is probably right, it is likely just a replacement DME. I will probably pop it open to verify it doesn't have a chip in it before just tossing it in with the engine & tranny.

Just because the driveshaft has a mfr. date of 1999 doesn't necessarily mean that's when it was installed. Any number of things could have happened, including it being NOS and sitting on a shelf/warehouse for a few years or more before it purchased/installed; maybe someone bought it, never installed it, then sold it on a forum/ebay several years later; or maybe the car actually did have a lot of miles on it after 4-5 years and it needed replacing. When I bought my current ti, it had 120k on the clock and the driveshaft was done. Who knows how long the PO drove on it w/o replacing. I've heard of driveshafts on these cars going out after 80-90k and lasting as long as 175+k, depending on how the car was driven and maintained.

Was there something flawed with the 95 driveshafts? Yes it is a 95.

It never hurts to give the month and year the car was built when asking a question: it helps folks know what you have.
