Just got the TI a couple of weeks ago. there is a homemade cross brace on it. It's not like the X braces that I see some people upgrading to around the forum but just a homemade aluminum tube from one side of the frame to the other. The problem is it has a stress crack in it and won't last much longer. I am having problems finding a part number for the factory one and was wondering if any of you who have upgraded the the X brace have the old one laying around and would be interested in selling or helping me out with a part number for this thing. Thanks for any help guys. | | | 04-25-2013, 01:39 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | 51 71 8 410 212 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...41&fg=10&hl=96 There is a single factory brace that mounts on two points. I haven't read of any homemade versions. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org Last edited by 1996 328ti; 04-25-2013 at 01:41 AM. | | | 04-25-2013, 02:29 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | there are usually a few listed on ebay. the most important thing to understand is the installation of the "nutserts" which provide the threaded receptacles for the bolts in the frame to hold the brace. it is not difficult, but you need to understand how to install them before you can bolt the brace in place. | | | 04-25-2013, 02:44 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: McHenry Posts: 8 | So when I said a homemade cross brace I should of just said cross member. The guy I bought it from just has a single piece of aluminum tubing cut and fitted from one side of the frame to the other. My question is isn't there a simple crossmember that came stock from the factory? I'm not finding it on realoem.com | | | 04-25-2013, 02:47 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | is it item #7 in the parts illustration in the second post? | | | 04-25-2013, 03:20 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | update----i think you are referring to part #7 in the illustration. i have that part----removed when i installed the "x brace". where is "mchenry"? you can have it for the cost of shipping----shouldn't be much. let me know. | | | 04-25-2013, 03:46 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: McHenry Posts: 8 | It may be #7 I haven't seen the original part obviously it just looks as though it would bolt on with two bolts on each side because there is two bolts there. However the one he has rigged is only using one of the bolts from each side. Mchenry is in Illinois north of Chicago | | | 04-25-2013, 03:50 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: McHenry Posts: 8 | Would be willing to pay shipping btw | | | 04-25-2013, 03:52 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | what is your zip code---will let you know. | | | 04-25-2013, 03:54 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: McHenry Posts: 8 | 60050 | | | 04-26-2013, 03:53 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | ti commuter-----just sent you an email. mac | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
