Default Drivers side parking light and interior lights are out.

Was trying to install LED tail lights that I just bought. When I turned on the parking, the warning buzzer went off and shut down in 5 seconds. I take a look and see the drivers side parking light is not on in the front or the rear; but the passenger side is fine. I check fuse number 33 (interior lights and parking lights) is still fine, but notice it has a 15A fuse instead of a 10A fuse. I take a look a look at the interior lights, and sure enough it's not working either.

I have a bad feeling about this. Any ideas on where I should start

Does your trunk light still work? I believe it's on F33.

If it does and I had take a very wild guess, I could imagine there was a short downsteam of the light switch contacts (pin 7 -> pin 1) that previously blew F33, someone replaced it with the 15A fuse, the short reappeared or another happened, and it has now burnt off the switch contacts.

F33 should be 10A to protect some 0.5 mm^2 wiring. The Bosch automotive handbook, 25th edition, recommends 7.5A but BMW may have used 10A to avoid nuisance tripping.

What about the other things powered by F33 (shown in the 1997 BMW NA E36/5 ETM on sheet 0670.3-11)?

Are you sure F33 isn't blown? Sometimes that's not visually obvious. Did you change it back to 10A?

Everything powered by F33 is not working. Reading lights, drivers side parking lights, cargo light. The fuse is see through, and the wire is visible and intact. I did change it to a 10A fuse, and it's still not working. The 10A fuse is still good too.

I always measure a fuse's resistance with a VOM to double check as I have had fuses that looked visible and intact, that weren't. (Except once while adding an inrush suppressor when I needed a vacuum cleaner to collect the remains after the fuse exploded. I went through three slow blow fuses before I got things right and still flip the main switch with a little trepidation.)

If you are measuring voltage into and out of F33, then you likely have a break in the circuit downstream. Sheet 0670.3-11 shows F33 and its wiring. Sheets 8000.0-02 and -03 show the locations of splices X481 (driver footwell, left wall) and X1079 (behind the glovebox). Once you find the break, I'd check for shorts further downstream and then fix the break.

Unfortunately I don't have a bosch handbook. Only have hanes. Would the wiring diagram be in it?

The Haynes manual has a some electrical drawings but they can only show so much in a few pages what originally were hundreds.

The Bosch automotive is a general handbook for automotive engineers.

The best source of drawings is the 1997 BMW NA E36/5 ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) as it specifically covers American and Canadian 318ti's.
