Default Another Newb to ask you dumb questions!

Hi,

Looks like i need to enter 5 posts before i can ask the really stupid questions!
I am a 1st time BMW owner and used to have VWs (seems a common factor in here). I just bought a clean high mileage 96TI with 180k.

It needs some head work, P/O said it broke a cam???? Dont know how that happened but oh well. It is hard to find rust free cars around here and this one was cleaner than most i looked at with lower miles. SO i pulled the trigger. My friend is a big BMW nut and a mechanic but a little bit of a hack. He will be doing most mechanical work so ill need advice from experienced owners with mods. 1st order of business is to fix the head and get her rolling again, then i want to tackle the suspension. I've read the suspension primer and the more i read, the more massive this job looks. Well have fun and dont burn me too bad for newb questions! Thanks!

suspension's not too bad if you do it in steps, I'd start with springs and shocks all around. if it's the original suspension I'm sure your rear springs are both broken

Suspension isn't bad at all. If your a previous dub owner. You may want coils. If so, get some D2's!

I always ran Koni and H&R. I was never much into the stance stuff, looks cool but living in Pennsyltucky it is very impractical. I'm going to go with the TC Kline kit i think.

Reading in the suspension faq it looks like ill have quite alot of hours spent replacing bushings, and it seems baffling which ones to buy. I searched and cant find out if different grade oem bushings are available so i need to figure that out. I def. dont want poly. I had them in a 91 16V Gli i had and it was nasty.

I basically bought this as a stylish toy and as i am an antique dealer i can stuff the back full of goodies!
