So with autumn starting to make its presence felt, there's nothing nicer than hitting a few back roads for a brisk drive and checking out the colours. A lot of people on this board seem to live in quite scenic parts of the world so I thought it might be fun if we made short videos of some of our favourite driving roads near where we live, as much about the scenery than the driving! As an example I made this short recording of a trip to the garden centre to buy some potting mix, and then a drive down some country lanes... Public roads in the day time so I'm trying not to drive like too much of a hooligan.... Unfortunately despite being stuck with duct tape the camera kept shifting on the dash so the view's not very good - but I have ordered a cheap mounting kit from eBay so in the next couple of days I will remake the clip properly! I wouldn't normally upload something I'm not that happy with but it's just to get the ball rolling! PS don't get scared, we drive on the left here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWo4UJB5mlI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKDZaR3stls mods, the YouTube tags are seriously broken lol Last edited by vsonix; 09-21-2011 at 07:28 PM. | | | 09-21-2011, 07:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Southwest England Posts: 379 | PS does anyone have any camera mounting tips? I'm sure I can get better image quality than this! | | | 09-21-2011, 07:13 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | Tip: Make sure there are no bug, or smudges in the view of the camera if you are shooting from the inside of the window, out. I enjoyed the videos. There are mounts for headrests or even suction-cup camera mounts that you can buy cheap pretty much anywhere (depends where you want to mout it). I guess it really depends on what kind of camera you have and what you're willing to subject your camera (lens) to. __________________ | | | 09-21-2011, 07:32 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Southwest England Posts: 379 | Yeah the stuff on the windshield is annoying... but it wasn't there when I went into the shop, and I didn't think to check before I set off - this was a spur of the moment idea! At least it got wiped off eventually! As I said before this is just a first attempt to get the thread started, so I will make something better once I have the mounting issue resolved. The bottom corner of the windshield isn't really the best place. The camera is a Fuji Finepix S1000 so it's a little bit bulky. Rather than waste too much time messing around with mounting it I might just get one of these off eBay since it's not all that expensive... in fact it costs about as much as just a mount... cheap chinese rubbish no doubt, but hey.... Just lift up the head rest, fit the camera in between the seat and head rest, and lower the head rest down. To adjust the angle, all you have to do is rearrange the seat. Zoom the camera a bit to get the dash out of view. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. Wish I'd seen this earlier today; the weather was perfect for some filming... although being Sunday the roads would also have been full of idiots driving at 25mph in a 60 zone... The forecast for tomorrow is good, however, so hopefully I'll be able to get out there. I'm thinking coastal route this time... | | | 09-25-2011, 09:22 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Southwest England Posts: 379 | Anyone else gonna get in on this and record a few favourite routes? | | | 09-25-2011, 10:07 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | I'll get in on it when my car is fully finished. This time the picture is great because it was really sunny, meaning you really get to appreciate the countryside and the roads themselves, but the sound is disappointing. Air turbulence wasn't even a problem last time although the window was open all the time - obviously there is more on the passenger side of the car and as a result there is a lot of wind noise in the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYQ_7-VOs-Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4XQI7EgPqA Tomorrow if the weather is equally good I am going out there again and getting it RIGHT this time!
