You need in-line resistor thingies if you're using the stock amp. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 11-02-2005, 04:55 PM | #33 | Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 48 | I too replaced my rear speakers with Infinity. I used a 5.25 and again made a mounting plate from 5/8" MDF. I used the plastic scoop that came out as a template and cut the MDF opening with a dremel cutout tool and the shaped it to fit with the dremel sanding disk. Fits like a glove but sounds so-so. I did find out later the Boston Acoustic also make a 4" that will fit. About $99 bucks. | | | 11-02-2005, 08:05 PM | #34 | Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Virginia Beach Posts: 48 | im thinking about just putting some 6x9s on the hatch cover like some others on here have done. I did rig up som 5.25 in the rear location but they sound like crap so now they just have the highs going through them sine the bass was crappy | | | 11-02-2005, 10:51 PM | #35 | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: West Palm Beach Posts: 46 | I got 5x 7 to work... Remove the entire 4" housing. If you cut a 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch piece of wood, and drill a hole through it, you can attach the 5x 7 in two locations into the factory original holes. | | | 11-02-2005, 11:09 PM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | Quote: Originally Posted by robcarync id like to know because if 5 1/4 speakers would fit, id probably start looking to upgrade...but i cant spend 260 for a speaker.... | I'm in the same boat cause man, are those things expensive | | | 11-03-2005, 01:38 AM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i just bought 5 1/4" pioneer speakers and they fit in the front fine....no problem at all i also fitted 4 inch pioneers in the rear too...with some modifications __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 11-03-2005, 04:15 AM | #38 | Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Virginia Beach Posts: 48 | Quote: Originally Posted by Nitro Nollie I got 5x 7 to work... I threw out/damaged the original housing so i Dont have anything to trace. I was thinking of bringing the whole assembly into work and put it on the copying machine so i could try to fab something. MB Quart make some of the very best speakers you can get... seems like a bargain. It'd be cool if we had some "step-by-step" install pages specific to the compact. -Aren | | | 11-15-2005, 06:24 AM | #42 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | Quote: Originally Posted by aren | somebody send me a set of those MB Quarts and i'll do an article on installing them __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 11-16-2005, 01:45 AM | #43 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | changing the rear speakers on this car is a pain in the ass. I mean they Come out easy but the speaker is attached to this enclosure and it's glued in,so you can't remove the speakers from it. So your only option is to customize it which is just plain silly if you ask me. I wish i saved my pics when i took them out, cause i bought speakers off someone on this site which he said was a dirrect fit but i didn't see that happening ,plus the speakers were ripped which to me means they are blown and are not going to sound good. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 11-21-2005, 03:17 AM | #44 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 90 | Quote: Originally Posted by Tman100z Does anyone happen to have or can make a paper template of the 5.25 speaker adapter mentioned above for the rear speakers so i could fab my own. Thanks Terence | I have a new set of the adaptor rings to mount 13cm (5.25") speakers where the rear 4T" currently goes. i havn't had a chance to mount them yet so i'd be happy the scan, copy, photograph or what ever but how do we make sure that the scale stays the same at your end? i could scan to a PDF and then as long as you print on A4 it should match. Let me know what you would like. So please try scanning it to a pdf file and Email it to tman100z@yahoo.com. Maybe scan it with a ruler next to it or some kind of size reference so we can tell if its the same size. Thanks in advance for the help. Ill be happy to share if its OK with Saintly. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
