Damn, 377K is still a lot of miles, man. Hope you like tooling around with cars, too (i.e. repalcing stuf that goes with regular wear & tear - otherwise mtce on these things I find expensive)... | | | 06-19-2007, 04:56 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: portland Posts: 42 | Holy ****e I was just gonna ask everybody how many miles to expect from this engine, I just bought a 98ti with 130k, runs nice. 377k? Damn now that is foreign made vehicle. I wouldn't pay more than a thousand for it, better a parts car than anything. If and when it goes tits up, you'll pay atleast the cash you'd spend for a nice one in the 4 to 5 thousand range probably more. I say no. | | | 06-19-2007, 05:49 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: WA STATE Posts: 129 | Thats a crap load o miles. seems to me that the running gear would be shot by then. | | | 06-19-2007, 01:56 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | Not a whole lot. At 377K, everything is pretty well worn. If your not good at working on these machines, I'd stay away. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 06-19-2007, 02:54 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | DAMN! 377,000 miles?!? I bought it with 48,000 miles on it. I think you could find one with less miles on it! __________________ Clever but we are clueless... Every part on these cars has a shelf life of only so many miles. Just remember that you've already exceeded that number on most parts in this car. Run away, and find a better car. __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | 06-19-2007, 07:11 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | I'm going to disagree. Cars, not even BMWs, make it to 377k miles without regular maintenance. I've got a bigger bet that this thing is in "pretty good condition" because the one owner knew what he/she was doing, and kept it together. Still, I wouldn't offer over 2k for it, since what you're doing is basically buying a rolling chassis (the motor is too much of a timebomb at this point). The only question is how the driver racked up so many miles. That's over 30k miles per year! __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 06-19-2007, 07:45 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | My dad had a friend who was really in to old MB. He would drive them up past 500k mi. and then give them away to charity auctions. The downside was he shelled out tons of cash to keep them up properly. And MBs are famous for surviving through the higher miles. So it probably would cost you an arm and a leg to keep it up. Unless you just want to pay under a grand for it and then just drive it until it breaks then it probably wouldnt be a good idea. It could be a fun racer since you would have to replace most parts anyway. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 06-19-2007, 07:56 PM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Chicago IL Posts: 13 | so no more than 2 g's? | | | 06-19-2007, 08:06 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Definitly. I personally wouldnt spend more then a grand but I doubt the owner will let it go for that because of the roundell. I also wouldnt buy it unless it was for a parts/race car but its up to you. Dont just jump on the car because its the first cheap BMW you see, there are others. But if you do go for it make sure you get a carfax and have it inspected by a certified BMW mech. If there is anything wrong then have the current owner fix it before the sale. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 06-19-2007, 08:28 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Cary, NC Posts: 117 | Wow thats incredible, a buddy of mine in highschool had a Blazer that had 360k on it when he sold it...incredible how long an engine will last if taken care of. __________________ 98 318ti 05 Impreza | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
