So last summer I found a 318ti here in ohio the guy offered to sell it too me for 700 bucks it needed a little body work and a fuel pump... I saw the car the other day driving so im guessing its fixed ... My question for you guys is should I buy the car ? How much life do you think the car has left ... and if the motor dies would an engine swap be realistic ? thankkks | | | 07-25-2006, 06:59 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Engine swaps are no biggie...is the rest of the car in good condition? My car has 193k and runs very strong still. Then theres the cost of the new engine and odds and ends __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 07-25-2006, 07:44 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Ohio Posts: 13 | Unless my dad comes back to the sates soon then itd be a shop doing it ... Expecially if you just replace it with a lower mileage same motor. Everything will be plug n play. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 07-25-2006, 09:03 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | is $700.00 or $7,000.00??? if is 700.00 buy it!!!!put a m3 engine on it with a supercharger and play with your new toy __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 07-25-2006, 09:06 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Philly, PA Posts: 189 | I got 205K plus on mine and she runs real good, betther than my wife's 2006 PT cruiser that only has 6,000 miles. | | | 07-25-2006, 09:53 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Virginia Posts: 247 | I'd buy that in a hearbeat, unless the body is badly rusted or something... Who knows how much longer the engine will last... even if it doesn't just spend the 4-5k or so you saved to buy a nice new engine with low mileage on it... BTW when my engine blew it cost only 3k to replace...although I did get a great deal on that... __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 07-26-2006, 12:19 AM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Cali Posts: 13 | My ti has 225k on it and I still love it. Off coarse it is not a racer and I am not pretending it is, but still is fun and pleasure to drive it. I bought it for $3k when was about 200k from the first owner. The guy daily commute was ~85 miles one way and he was religiously taking care for that car not only cosmetic. So, far I am glad I've got it. By my opinion 318ti can make well over 200k if is well maintained and is drven mainly highway insted of stop and go with cold engine, expecially if it comes from nice climate zone such as north Cali. | | | 07-26-2006, 01:44 AM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Ohio Posts: 13 | Yep 700 lol but he'll prolly ask more now that it has a new fuel pump and the body works been done ! Get my funs together and buy the car : D hehe what makes it even sweeter is this will be my first car : ]]] and the car ive been scoping out for awhileeee Ill keep everyone imforned and thankss alot : )) | | | 07-27-2006, 07:23 AM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: bronx, NY Posts: 8 | my 97 ti has 263,245 miles on it anthony bx ny | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
