I had this happen, and it turned out one of the screws that holds the latch actually made it's way through/tore the sheetmetal, and was allowing the latch to wiggle and not grab onto the hook. See if the latch itself is loose/moves, and if it does, pull the plastic cover a little to see the screws I'm talking about that are probably the problem. If not, spray some type of lube in there, but I don't think that'd be it unless the release mechanism is stuck __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS.
