Default Hatch not latching...

I figure most people look in this section, so I'll post here.

Yesterday, my hatch worked fine.
This morning, the hatch refused to latch on to the little hook on the bottom. I noticed there is a slight overhang in the latch which seems to be preventing it from gripping onto the hook.

I'm thinking I should attempt to disassemble the latch and put some sort of lubricant in it...

It's kind of important since I do park outside on pretty busy streets.

Suggestions?

I had this happen, and it turned out one of the screws that holds the latch actually made it's way through/tore the sheetmetal, and was allowing the latch to wiggle and not grab onto the hook. See if the latch itself is loose/moves, and if it does, pull the plastic cover a little to see the screws I'm talking about that are probably the problem. If not, spray some type of lube in there, but I don't think that'd be it unless the release mechanism is stuck

The latch is definitely not gripping the little stick thing that it's supposed to. The trunk closes flush but then kind of just rests there. The latch isn't wiggling though, it seems really firm.
