Default HELP! A little clock figure appeared on board!

Does anyone know what this means? The little dot you can see in the picture above the oil indicator is actually a little clock figure (bad photo). It showed today, when I started my car (E36 compact) and I never sow this symbol until now. It goes off after 4-5 seconds along with the oil indicator. I know about the oil service inspection (it's not the case, as you can see I still got 3 marks) and the "inspection" (1,2,3, etc).
BUT WHAT DOES THE LITTLE CLOCK MEANS???

Have you messed with your cluster?
I think that might mean that the mileage has been tampered with.

When a DOT lights up, you're right! BUT I said that the symbol it's actually a CLOCK figure, not a dot, but you can't see it because the photo is bad.

Thank you for your answer...anyone else???

Now I see what you mean.

If you do the cluster test
http://www.bmw-m.net/techproc/test.htm
Test 4 displays what looks like a clock at 9:00.
Test 4: SI elapsed days - no value for US vehicles. Relates to Euro annual inspections.

Still not sure what that means though.

Seems like it means that car needs to be taken to Europe for inspection.

I think it's already there judging by the photo.

Since the speedo and miles driven are both in kilometers I would guess maybe the car is in europe?

I heard that it could be that the brake fluid needs changing...

Maybe. . . if your car is due for inspection. . . it wouldn't hurt you to take it in.

Well...I'm not sure that clock figure is for inspection. I was just saying that "Inspection" lites up in that case. I think I will call the dealer tomorrow!

Hey smart ass... it IS important because there are differences in the Euro & US cars.... and judging by the previous members' posts... it wasn't too clear on your location.... but that's not important I guess.

Let's get back on topic.
I don't believe most of us have ever seen it because it might be a Euro only indicator. Brake fluid is something that is due every two years <I think>, so I don't think it's that.

I know a tech at BMW North America. I'll ask him.
Also I just recently set location to be a required field because we have members all over the world.

Edit: Just sent off an email to my friend at BMW NA. I hope he still works there.

Has it occurred to you that PERHAPS the car has two DIFFERENT inspection periods?

You're acting as if there is only one possible reason why you'd take the car in for inspection.
