You should be fine. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-17-2006, 06:41 AM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | Quote: Originally Posted by Variance I have 245s in the rear with no problems. The outer diameter and width of the tire is still the same, whether it's on 18's or 17's. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-17-2006, 07:01 AM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | I'm under the impression that a 245/40R17 tire has a smaller rolling diameter than a 245/40R18 tire. EDIT: The rolling diameter of the 18 inch tire with identical width and profile numbers is exactly 1 inch larger, which is definately nothing to scoff at considering the kind of clearances we are talking about. I would recommend this gentleman to use 245/35R18 tires, as they are only .04in larger in overall diameter | | | 05-17-2006, 07:07 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | No no no, with a larger wheel diameter, you have to get a smaller profile tire. You need to keep the rolling diameter as close to stock as possible, or else your speedometer and odometer will be wrong. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-17-2006, 07:10 AM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | You were implying that a 40-series 18in tire would be the same height as a 40-series 17in tire, which is false. A 35-series 18in tire would be the best bet. | | | 05-17-2006, 07:15 AM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | Okay, I see where we're getting our wires crossed. With my original post, I didn't mean to imply anything abut the profile of the tire. I was just saying that you can fit a 245 width tire fine in the rear. Of course, he would have to adjust his profile to get the proper rolling diameter with the new width. I guess I should have been a little more specific, sorry about that. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-17-2006, 07:21 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | Now I get it! LOL You had me doing research online to make sure I wasn't talking crazy. I was typing in different tire sizes into a few of those speedometer error calculators and the whole bit. I should have trusted you to know things like that, but it seems like there's lots of people who don't know a whole lot... And I haven't been active on here for long enough to know who does and doesn't. I'll just file you away into the "people who know things about cars" column. | | | 05-17-2006, 07:30 AM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | Haha, no problem, man. I guess we can let this thread get back to fender-rolling now, heh. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-17-2006, 07:32 AM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | On with the fender rolling! What would be a good price? It can't be that much, can it? __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-23-2006, 02:40 AM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Oh you can do it yourself Ok here are the pics.. a little delay, but here they are. Tires are 235/40/17 hankook RS2s they run wide so maybe more comparabe to a 245 tires. Offset is 40mm with a 12mm spacer. Drop is 3.1 front 2.5 rear..maybe a bit more. With -1.5 camber in the rear. | | | 05-23-2006, 02:45 AM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Pics of the cf/kevlar race seats for fun....I still need the black covers | | | 08-15-2008, 01:28 AM | #30 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Canada Posts: 17 | i dont know if im crazy or not but i keep getting people telling me that i cant fit 245x40 R17s on the back of my ti . but here you guys seem to get it done. i know i will have no problems with my fronts which are 225x45 R17. but im scared that fender rolling wont be enough for my rear | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
