I just bought some seats for my ti. They are dove, but I need black. Possible? Last edited by MacUser; 02-16-2010 at 02:53 AM. Wouldn't be worth the cost imo. Sell them and get some black ones. My M3 still has nice black leather at 150,000 miles so you'll find some somewhere. __________________ E36 3.0 M3 Cosmos Schwarz E36 1.8 318ti Cosmos Schwarz | | | 02-16-2010, 01:55 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | It is possible to re-finish them, but it will be a lot of work... I re-finished 2 sets of Vader seats, but didn't change the color. (did a whole write-up, it's on the site here) If you do decide to tackle this, I highly recommend swapping the cushions from one side to the other... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I remember reading the write-up on it, but I couldn't remember who did it ... that was my inspiration ... they looked F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! Any estimate time-wise? Ten hours per seat? More? Less? One hundred dollars per seat? More? Less? I'm hoping $200-$300 will get it done. What are non-powered Vaders in this condition worth (passenger side looks much better)? | | | 02-16-2010, 04:04 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Your time will depend on how thorough you are... 10 hours overall labor is a little low, maybe 12, as you will have to do more prep work to change the color... Materials will run a little less, I spent less than $100 in total materials for both sets... Mint (or near) condition Vaders usually run $600-$800 in my neck of the woods... If they are heated (and the heating elements are working) will up the price by $100-$200... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. What did you use to spray the dye on? I'm thinking I'll get Jet Black as the color. | | | 02-16-2010, 04:26 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Jet black is the right color, and yes, it will be much easier going to black from dove... I brushed on the base coats with a good quality brush (a foam brush will work well too...), and sprayed the top coat on with a "craft sprayer". (Leatherworld carries it) It is basically a compressed air canister attached to a container for whatever liquid you want to spray... I did not use the little pump spritzer, as it just kind of sputtered the dye out unevenly. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
