Default Plastic oil filter cover

My oil cover looks similer to this one but there is no nut on the top of it. Ive tried useing a 74/76 MM filter wrench on it and didnt work. It was just barily too big. How the hell am i suposed to get this thing off?

You need a 76mm with 14 Flutes. make sure it's deep enough, otherwise try one of those adjustable strap wrenches.

just for other people to note. its IMPOSSABLE to get a damn strap wrench in there. the 2 hoses make it impossable. Thus spend the 40$ and wait 3 weeks for the socket thing to come in.

Smile Oil Filter Wrench

If your filter cap is not stuck on too tight, the $5 Type B cup style oil filter wrench from Autozone will probably work. Mine (just yesterday) had been screwed down so tight by the dealer that the 3/8" socket drive turned the square hole into a round one. The car sat on floor jacks overnight (I had already drained the oil!) until I could call around. I found a Mercedes tool (74mm - 14 flute) that was much more stout (and expensive at $32). But, it did in 3 minutes what the cheap stamped steel one could not do.

I got the Mercedes part number 103 589 0209 00 from this website.

Here is my late model year 1995 Club Sport with a plastic cap (see attached photo). I have plenty of room for a "strap" style wrench. However, the photographed car looks significantly different. Must be a change for a different year, or is that a 6 cylinder? In the photo I have the wrench set to loosen, and notice that I have a full 1/6th of a turn or so before I hit anything with the wrench.

I've used a strap wrench on my 98 ti before, but mine oil cap doesn't look like yours. I did that when i first got her before i had the tool to remove it.

It's the picture from the Pelican Parts Tech guide on how to change your oil. The one pictured is easily removable using an adjustable wrench

The 4 cyl they feature is of a pre 95, so it can be removed using some standard tools. The Post 96 Oil Filter is best removed using the oil filter wrench or one of the straps. My friend didn't have a small enough oil filter strap wrench for his KIA, so he took off his belt and got enough leverage to unscrew it, try it
