Default New 4.5 lb battery?!

I have had a 13.5 lb Dynabatt in the right hatch storage bin for a while now. Yes, it's cool at 13.5 lbs, and fits like a glove in the bin, but it doesn't hold a charge as well as the old fashioned "heavy" car battery. I need to have the car on a trickle charger if I don't drive the car every other day, which I don't. Not a big deal for a toy, but it doesn't give you the peace of mind if you wanted a light weight battery for everyday use.

I've been frequenting one of the Lotus Elise forums (possible next toy!) and came across this new 4.5 lb battery with a new lithium technology that supposedly is not only lighter than my Dynabatt, but holds a charge like the big old batteries. It's a little pricey, but it's still going to be way cheaper and much less of a hassle then my plans to weld in a new 323ti rear floor pan. I'm going to give it a try and let you guys know how it works out. It would be great for all of you who already put the battery in the trunk as you would regain useable hatch space. Even for those with the battery still in the engine compartment, you could save 40-50 lbs up front. Ironically, the cables for the battery running to the hatch probably weigh more than the 4.5 lb battery itself.

Clex2, how about trying to get a discount if we do a group buy? Sounds kool to have this in any car!! I'm in if the price drops.

Spoke to one of the guys at Voltphreaks named Tony. There already is a group buy going on e46fanatics. It's 30% off, or just 5% more than what's on sale now. I think theey are giving a 5 year waranty also. However, after talking with Tony, I think what I may need is a new Dyna-Batt (or equivalent) battery. Mine is atleast 4 years old and has had a few complete discharges which is not good for it. I can get a new Dyna-Batt for $99. The lithium battery is no better in terms of capacity, just lighter.

What's the weight difference between the Dyna-Batt and the lighter one? Also the $99.00 price is for your replacement only or can anyone get this price? Thanks and by the way, we are planning on going to the Euro meet next month are you attending?
