I wonder if they will actually get that for it.. Unfortunately I don't think there is really a way to put a value on that car other than to say it is worth what somebody would pay for it.... Even with the really low mileage you have to be concerned about things just being worn out because they are getting old. I could see 8 or 9k, not 13k.. Probably best to try and sell market it to enthusiasts.. I don't think somebody walking in off the street would pay that for it. They'll look at bluebook and see it listed at half of that cost. | | | 08-08-2006, 05:07 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: North San Diego County Posts: 108 | You're right, low mileage does not protect the plastic and rubber stuff that breaks down with age. Dealers always markup the price to see what the market will bear. | | | 08-08-2006, 05:10 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: CA Posts: 104 | it could also be a rewinded/reset speedometer. I have even seen people disconnect the speedometer and drive without it to keep miles low. | | | 08-08-2006, 05:12 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: MA Posts: 30 | There's a car in a similar situation, sitting at Concord Motorsport in NH: http://www.concordmotorsport.com/detail.aspx?iid=917889, '92 325i, they are asking $22,540. IIRC it took them a while to figure out what to price it at. I'd really be concerned with how such cars were stored. Take coolant for example, that's supposed to be changed every two years. Is this still needed in a stored car? __________________ '95 318ti 285K | | | 08-08-2006, 05:14 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Thousand Oaks, California Posts: 343 | Called them today, they say that it was sold, and i asked how much it went for they said 12,000.... crazy __________________ 1993 325is Hellrot Tribute to: 97 318ti Montreal Blue R.I.P 96 318ti Schwartz II | | | 08-08-2006, 05:24 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: MA Posts: 30 | >how much it went for they said 12,000.... crazy May be a collector bought it? For 12k you could get a 97 m3 with reasonably low miles on it. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 08-08-2006, 02:36 PM | #9 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | You know whats funny,i just did kbb.com on my car with the amount of miles(35k) that were on it at the time and i got a price of 9grand. This is the funny part i did it again with my current miles and the price was 8,400,so there is 70 thousand miles difference and only a 800 dollar difference in price. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 08-08-2006, 03:54 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Tyler- That is one of the problems with KBB. A lot of their prices are based on the age of the car and the mileage just has a minor factor that also plays along with the condition of the car. You'll even notice that they talk about seeing service records and how complete records at all service intervals can make a car more valuable even with high miles. I tend to think that KBB overvalues high mileage cars. And that car had a clean mileage report from carfax. Given that was in California it has emissions records from every other year. So the mileage looks accurate. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 5 (0 members and 5 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
