Bought mine at 288k miles, first thing I had to do before even driving it was replace entire cooling system (even radiator had a whole), all hoses as well. 9k miles later nothing has gone wrong until my accident this morning..

Failed smog test dammit. No check engine lights and no codes, just high Hydro Carbon emissions. HC is usually a result of rich air fuel ratio.

Swapped in a used coil, spark plug wires and injectors purchased from a member of this forum.

While installing new Autolite 3923 copper plugs (gapped .032") found a leak in one of the valve cover gaskets so I Swapped new gaskets.

Water pump was leaking so R/R a replacement, not that this has anything to do with emissions but we all know the cooling system is fragile.

PASSED SMOG. I hate randomly throwing parts at a car, but it worked this time.

396,000 miles and 32+ MPG

Original clutch! Not kidding. The throwout bearing is starting to squeak. I baby the heck out of this transmission as I'm not ready to install a clutch nor be stranded. Soon however, it's inevitable.

Nice passing! Congrats!

I have a white 95 active auto with 372,000 and it passed earlier this year. Love the durability of the BMW 4's.

What's "active auto?" I think my daughter might have one. Is it the button next to the gear selector? What does it do?

I maintain my daughter's '95 318ti with 160K miles and my wife's e46 5 speed touring with 90k miles. Maintaining e36/e46's is inexpensive, fixing them is expensive.

Venting today:

You know that plastic log attached to the head below the intake for hoses, one of the hoses sprung a leak. So I got a new hose and starting tearing into it.

I had pulled the injectors/tree/fuel rail and decide to replace the tree. Pop, nipple on one of the injectors breaks off. No problem, that's what JB Weld is for.

I pulled the top 1/2 intake assembly off, loosened the hose in order to swap it, then pop, little piece of the plastic log broke.

OK, no problem. Ordered a new log, it was due anyway. New log arrives, and I start disconnecting the plugs and wire spaghetti inside the lower 1/2 manifold, then pop. The ****ing plastic housing on the starter solenoid brakes off at the + stud.

****ing kidding me.

435K miles, was getting 30mpg. I'm getting my courage up to swap out the starter and put EVERYTHING back together.

Holy Molly... How high do you anticipate your odometer might get up to? Mad props on keeping the engine running well at super high mileage.

Head has never been off the block. Other than this recent trip down the rabbit hole its always served me well. Its always had Castrol 10w30. The chain cover is leaking at a seal now and I suspect the original tensioners/guides are due to snap.

It's a spare car without any intrinsic resell value. I'm going to park/store it and use it for a future EV swap so I don't anticipate hardly any miles added.
