Got all my parts in.
I'm guessing it is not necessary to lube the cable.

nope, would put lithium grease on springs by the pedal (if there is one), and maybe a little on the throttle body springs, but that's about it.

eh, you should be able to knock it out in an hour or so Steven. I'd recommend disconnecting the battery and removing the driver's seat so you can lay flat on your back with your feet up on the back seat. This gives you the best view and ability to maneuver your arms up under the dash. I removed the lower dash, underpanel and knee buster to make things easier. There's a plug for the footwell light and the OBDII interface is screwed onto the knee buster with two phillips head screws. Be careful not to rip the wires out. You may want to use a box cutter to trim away some of the rubber insulation around the plastic clip where it goes through the firewall. I cut a large square out of the insulation on my M3 when I removed the cable. I didn't however cut the insulation on the Ti since I already knew how the clip worked. Use a flathead screwdriver to push up on the buttom of the clip. Once the bottom clip releases, you should see a little light coming through the firewall. Then take a stubby flathead screwdriver, place it flat along the top of the upper clip and pull down. When it releases, you should be able to wiggle the whole clip through the firewall. Installing is a breeze, just make sure that when the round plastic part of the clip that mates flush on the firewall is snapped in, the cable guide is angled upward in the engine compartment.

Yahoo!

Great advice on removing the seat!

It was a bitch to remove the cable from the firewall.
I replaced everything!
Spring, bushings, circlips.

A few observations.
My original cable entered the pedal from the left.
Realoem shows it from the right.
So I took apart the dash again to pop it in from the right.

My original cable didn't line up perpendicular with the mounting tab under the throttle body. This one does.

Now I'm not sure if I installed the cable upside down.
My original cable had some markings on the top so I installed the new one the same way. Realoem shows the upper tab of the firewall mount as being larger. My original one was on the bottom. It's not coming out.

But overall, the cable looks like it fits a lot better the way I have it.

It also didn't seem that the cable needed to be adjusted, but I did anyway.
Having disconnected the battery and reconnecting it to start it, my idle seemed a bit high then it went down. Also sounded like a vacuum leak but I think that was because I was in my closed garage with the hood up. I'm always listening for the worst.

The butt dyno tells me the cable is like night and day.
I could have sworn acceleration was better, but I know it can't be.
I no longer have any slack in the cable.

At first I didn't think there was any improvement but blipping the throttle is now effortless.
A huge, huge improvement.
Now to practice my heel & toe.

Oh, I found a bulb and torx screw from a bulb replacement from years ago.

Cool Steven! The upper tab should be the larger one, atleast it was on my Ti and M3. The cable also has a bend that should be naturally facing the throttle body if installed properly. When you push the clip through the firewall, the cable guide should be angled upward like so:

It's hard for me to tell. It looks likes it's angled correctly.
I do know the new cable had a marking on the top, like an X near the engine/firewall side on the rubber coating.

Hey as long as it works... I'm sure you got it right, you'd probably notice if there was a problem. Kinda cramped under that dash huh. Man I could barely fit my arm in there! The key was to have all of the tools within reach as to not have to get in and out of position My old broken back couldn't have done this job without removing the seat

Even with the seat it was rough because of my harness bar.
And I'd loose direction underneath the dashboard.

Attached is a photo of the cable, engine side.
It shows the marking I'm talking about it.
The insulation is pulled back.
I forgot to run the cable through the insulation so I cut it to make it work.
The angle is a bit deceptive.

The cable does feel good.
I can now feel how bad the old cable was.

hmm... I see what you're talking about. Mine doesn't have an elbow coming out of the firewall. I installed it exactly the way it was on the M3 that I pulled it from.

On your picture 1, it looks like you have some markings on the bottom.

Everything seems to be opposite from my original cable.

Looking at the realoem diagram, it looks like mine is upside down. However, both cables on my Ti and M3 were installed the same way and the elbow just before the cable meets the throttle body is facing towards the engine. I think the realoem diagram has it pictured incorrectly. I'm gonna try to find a picture in the Bentley manual. Here's the realoem diagram for referrence:

We might be thinking about this too hard.
Since mine was a conversion, who knows if it was originally installed correctly.

The attached photo is from the BMW TIS CD.
It shows the larger tab on the top.
Didn't see anything in the Bentley manual.

Yeah I suppose it probably doesn't really matter. I checked both the Bentley and the Haynes manual, but it's really hard to tell. Found pics in the HVAC section and the windshield wiper section, but they weren't very clear. The actual throttle cable sections didn't have any pics of the cable coming out of the firewall. Perhaps another member who hasn't done the swap could check their throttle cable and shed some light. Maybe even snap a quick photo of their throttle cable coming out of the firewall from a side view

don't really remember the throttle cable being that difficult a job other than popping out that clip in the firewall.... a hammer and a screwdriver and some anger got that thing out quick.

I honestly can't remember the position of the clip though... i would think it would point "up" in the direction the the cable would naturally go. In reality though, I can't see it really mattering.
