The timing on this became a little more urgent as I was driving over the weekend and hit some speed bumps in a parking lot at a relatively slow speed and completely bottomed-out the front end. That said, I'm looking at Pelican's catalog and they list front foam bump stops for E36 M-cars, and a separate p/n for the rest of the E36 line. I'm assuming that the M-tech p/n is a little shorter (it looks so) to take into account the lowered suspension. My questions are: 1.) Will the M-tech stop fit non-M-tech cars? and if so: 2.) Would the M-tech p/n be preferable since I will be running H&R Sport springs w/ Bilstein Sport struts/shocks? I'm also looking at the Rogue Engineering RSM's- is anyone currently using these? They look to me like the best ones out there so far. Will I need any additional plates/bracing around the sheet metal if I run the Rogue Engineering mounts? Thanks for any input... | | | 02-25-2011, 05:27 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Anyone? | | | 02-25-2011, 08:04 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | what foam bump stoppers are you referring to? i'm lost, need a picture to see what you're talking about. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! I don't think it really matters as long as you have something there. The only fitment issue I could imagine would be the inside diameter of the hole. I have Bilstein sports as well and the piston is much larger in diameter than the stock Mtech struts. You might try contacting Bilstein for the correct bumpstops if they even make them. I haven't heard of anyone tearing the sheet metal around the RSM's, the shock mounts are designed to fail before the chassis does. Rogue Engineering makes some pretty awesome stuff, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the quality. camel toe. | | | 02-25-2011, 02:34 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | I believe the front bilstein sports have bumpstops built in. The rears used the stock bumpstop which, for me, was a small rubber disc. I have the rogue rsm, you won't need anything else. Just make sure to torque the top shock nut to 11 ft lbs, the bushings should bulge a little bit. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-26-2011, 09:14 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by Marv17 what foam bump stoppers are you referring to? | These: Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 the foam sleeves that slide over the strut piston. | They look like this: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...FB32%2C%20Each @ Jess: I realize that the Bilsteins have a much larger piston diameter than stock, I was just thinking I could take an x-acto knife or utility knife or something and make the hole a little larger to make it fit over the piston. The existing ones are probably OK, but I have had experiences in the past where the bumpers were in several pieces or non-existant. Since I've never taken the front end on this car apart, I can't say for certain. Few things piss me off more than getting everything torn apart only to realize that you need to make another trip (or more) to the parts store before everything can go back together. Thanks for everyone's help on this- I'm hoping to be able to knock this job out (suspension rebuild/M3 front brake upgrade) in the next couple of weeks. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
