so does our (collectively speaking) connector on the ti look the same as that? have you called to get your free engineering samples yet?

I think it's the same.
Here is the picture of the connector, when I installed my new armrest.
Not sure if I need to use it, but it has possibilities. The radio mute pin is interesting, but how do you get your phone to send the signal on that pin? My Blaupunkt head unit will mute if that pin sends the correct signal.

somebody better hook something cool up with it! maybe one of those drink heater/cooler things or maybe a shiatsu neck massager that mounts on the driver's side headrest. YES!

not sure what all those mean...but sounds interesting...

so like switched/unsiwtched power...does that just mean like a power source to power anything? the radio mute...how does that work....

sounds interesitng...my pops is an electrical engineer, im sure we could get something cool going on with it!

Switched/Unswitched is just like your ignition switch. It has power when your ignition key is turned, and no power when you don't have the key in the ignition.

I will finally be done with my Electrical Engineering degree this Fall, after 7 1/2 years of night school.

i believe the unknown 2-pin connector in the link is for the lighted shift knob.
if i'm correct, it is switched power, and will dim with the rest of the interior lights.

for most purposes, a purple wire is switched power.

congrats on the engineering degree l8

on a side note, i was thinking about wiring my garage door opener to a button in one of my blank switches by the window switches...and using that wiring harness for the power source so i dont have to worry about changing batteries ever...

so has anyone taken apart to determine if our cars do in fact have this wiring harness, and has anyone gotten the 'engineering samples' for the connector to see if they work?

also, my car is a 1995, so i guess i might not have it, since the article said 96/97....

i guess ill have to look

Default mystery connector one step further...

when i was cleaning the little caddy deal in the center console i noticed on the underside where it states 'cut for cellular' or something along the lines of that. so it totally makes sense for that to be the factory cell wiring-- especially with the stereo mute on there... on another note, i found two extra connectors around the headlights, one on each side and have been wondering about them since i put my euro lights in. any ideas? maybe wiring for city lights?

The "mysterious" harness is the mobile phone power connector. Here is a picture of mine when I was installing my armrest.

I'm gonna take the auxillary power socket that I bought on Ebay, and wire it to this connector. That way my son can use his portable DVD player in the back seat.

Here is a picture of the auxillary power adapter. It's suppost to connect to a socket in the glove box. Our cars don't have the socket, but if I can wire the mobile phone adapter to the cigarette lighterpower adapter cable, I'm in business.

just remember to put a fuse in there.

i have my ipod / v1 / cb "wired in" to the cigarette lighter. i actually just made an intermediary connector that i can plug/unplug in case i ever want to go back to stock. (requires ashtray removal) might be easier to go that route and just run the wires than try and figure out this connector. they're a bit thicker gauge as well.

I don't think the ti was pre-wired for the lighted knob. When I bought mine from the dealer it came with the wires that had to run to the distribution block under the dash on the driver's side.
