Default 1995 ti won't start

1995 318ti, e36, M42, 5 speed.
Stereo, headlights, windows, locks, fan all work.
Fault code 1444 (no faults)
won't start, no turn over, no tick tick tick, nothing...

all fuses are good, battery is good, ... any suggestions? Thanks fellas.

When you turn to IGN2, is the check engine light illuminated? If so, does it turn off when you turn to start?

Question

The check eng. light is on in the 2nd position, and remains on in the start/run position...

Since its manual, id like to think it has a Neutral Safety Switch installed, i dont remember if my clubsport had one or not. If yours does, turn to IGN2, press the clutch, listen for a relay to click on the passengers underside dash. If there is no click, that switch has gone bad, if there is a click, there are other steps that need to be taken.

I have always been able to start my car without the clutch, does that make a difference to this diagnosis?

my 96 ti is a 5 spd and no there is no "neutral safety switch" or "clutch pedal switch", it was the first thing i noticed when i bought it.

Thats fine, i guess they didnt start them in the ti till 97 then for the ti. My 97 and 97 have them stock, my 96 was originally auto, so i wouldnt know if it was supposed to have one or not. Need more history on this car, can you post any relevant information?

So I get the click under the dash, but that is the ABS. There isn't a NSS or CPS in the Manual, only a cruise control switch, which is not the problem...
It ran fine on saturday night, then no crank, no click no nothing on Sunday morning...
the OBD I says that there are no issues, and I know that it has a starter monitor...
The battery was replaced about a year ago, I replaced my Master Key about a year ago,

The ride is a 95 im not sure what package to be honest, it's a manual, with a power sliding sunroof, the factory m42 is still in it.

Have you checked the ground to the battery at all? Check the main ground from the chassis to the passenger side engine mount arm? Roll start it?

I have located what i believe are 3 grounds in my engine compartment, and all appear good.

1.)

1 is located just below the battery housing
2 is located just above the engine mount (i believe this is the main)
3 is located on the drivers side strut tower, just beside the intake box.

I push started it this morning, started first try, but was idling very hard and low, and the check engine light came on after idling for about 30 seconds, CE light shuts off when you give gas, but comes back on after idling for 30 secs or so... i'm really puzzled here...

It sounded like it was just missing, i had been idling high for a month or so, i chalked it up to the EVT or whatever the variable timing system is called on these... but when i push started it today it was idling really low, and sounded like it was missing yes...

So you said all the fuses are good, but is the brake light fuse ok? its a itty bitty one and I can't tell if its blown without pulling it out. When it blows the car wont crank....


And By the way could someone try a M44/Post 95 model to see if this is unique to the 95?
