Default Shipping tires

For those of you that have bought/sold wheel/tire combos, how did you go about shipping them?

I'll probably do UPS, but I'm wondering if they care if they're dirty and how they prefer to ship them.

My plan at the moment is to just use zip-ties to strap the wheels together in two bundles of two. They're my winter wheels, so I'm not worried about marring.

I've sold a couple sets of tires on ebay, and I've always shipped FedEx. I just used packing tape to hold the tires together.

As for being dirty, as long as there aren't clumps of mud hanging off the tires I don't think they care. The tires I've shipped weren't especially clean.

I have gotten rim/tyre packages from the tirerack.. they put cardboard over the front and rear and just leave the tread hanging out before they shrinkwrap and stapping tape the heck out of them

UPS is generally more expensive, or at least they have been in my experience. I would go with either DHL or FEDEX. UPS was actually $20 more to ship an 80 lbs package from IL to PA than DHL and FEDEX.

Fedex is a pain in the ass out here. They made me drive a 3-hr round trip to pick something up because their delivery guy didn't leave a door tag 3 trips in a row.

Usually if I go straight to the shipping desk it's cheap, and I'd rather give them my business. Or rather, not give my business to Fedex.

Thanks for all the replies. I was worried they would bitch if they were dirty.
