We've been drier than... well, we've been pretty dry. Speaking of flooding, I remember a year or two ago when we had some flooding in Hershey, check out pics of HersheyPark below. | | | 05-15-2006, 06:58 AM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | i have a question. Is there still water from new orleans or did the sun dry all that up already? Im pretty sure there still isnt people not living there right? Or is there still water? Cuz taht was a lot of water and for the sun to just dry it up. How long has it been already? I know for a fact that city is all f*cked up though. | | | 05-15-2006, 07:08 AM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | I'm sure the water level receded, and I believe they had massive pumps running for awhile, and the ground absorbed some, and some evaporated. And as of right now, it is still a terrible terrible mess. The downtown areas, like the French Quarter, are still up and running, as they didn't get hit too hard. It's residential suburbs such as but not only the ninth ward that are in the worst shape. My dayshift co-ord and one of my cohorts took a week off to go down there and donate some time and effort. They did nothing but gut out houses. Everyone down there says that it is unreal how awful it is. It's as if they are on another continent in some war-torn third-world nation. And on top of that, evidently it smells AWFUL all the time! In my personal opinion, they would save time and money by not rebuilding that city in that location. They need to just tear down the levees, see where the water runs to, then build the city again, on higher ground. Historic downtown New Orleans is above sea level, so it can stay and remain a bastion of libations and blues. $.02 | | | 05-15-2006, 10:11 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Lake Stevens, WA Posts: 119 | Hope your car is OK, but generally, you don't want to tow automatics with the drive wheels on the ground. Something about the parts moving, but the lubricant pump not. I don't think it will hurt a manual, even with LSD. __________________ Pete N | | | 05-15-2006, 10:19 PM | #20 | doesn't care about you. You'll be way under $800. Alternator, belt, and caliper (which isn't related at all to the electrical problem, and I'd by curious as to why they even bothered to check it) are all relatively easy repairs. | | | 05-16-2006, 03:31 PM | #25 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by IndianaTravis Fix it yourself! The rain isn't supposed to stop till this weekend or early next week. The alternator explains why i had all the electrical problems and they are rebuilding the brake caliper. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-16-2006, 03:37 PM | #26 | doesn't care about you. I don't know if it's worth $800, but it'll save you some time. Do you know how much time they quoted you for the R&R of the alternator? If they are pulling the intake manifolds to get to it, you might want to change out your collant connectors if you haven't already. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-16-2006, 03:44 PM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Make sure they don't overcharge the price of the alternator like the did me. Google some prices and if they charge significantly more call them out on it! A 318ti alternator for your car costs $186-177. | | | 05-16-2006, 03:49 PM | #28 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT I hear the alternator is a beast to remove and install. I did when mine went bad and now it has a lifetime warranty. It was in the vicinity of 150 for it. Plus I changed it myself. The only thing I had to remove was the airbox (back when I actually had one) it only took me like and an hour or two. While your in there, you can change the belts to.....since they have to come off to swap out the alternator. __________________ "Power Rules, Smooth is Fast, Late Brake if you HAVE TO, But Always get the Inside Line.......and Fear No One." | | | 05-16-2006, 04:24 PM | #30 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by Juni Dude, just autozone the alternator. I just have no time,i get home from work at about 6 o'clock so i don't have much light and i would be doing this in the rain. If it were the weekend it would be a different story. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
