I also have a 96 Cali Package, Just the standard Cali Package options, `15"/5 spokes, OBC, Cruise, Sunroof, vinyl interior, leather steering wheel and shift knob, no fogs, m tech side moldings. Wouldnt the California Package be considered an active?

Getting off to a good start, aren't you?
You have a Sport. You are here to learn, right?
The Club Sport was offered in 1995 only.

That's true. In the US, there where actually two Sports in 95. The 95 Sport did not have the M-technic trim. Starting in 96 they did, minus the M3 mirrors that the 95 CS had. In 99 only the sport was available.

My registration document has my car as a "318ti Sport Edition", so I definitely know its a sport
Wasn't there a "Sport" and a "Sport Edition" in the UK? I think the only major difference was the M44 engine and front fogs? Shouldn't we list the "Dakar Version" as I've seen a few of these in the UK and they are easily distinguished by the bright Yellow paint job

They don't come with a registration or title?
Well looking at it it looks like a 96 or 97 Sport.
The kidney grills look like the are 'innie' meaning flush with the nose panel.
I believe there is a producation date on the door.

Converting AUS dollars to US => $3767.05

grab the VIN and go here: www.realoem.com/bmw and you can at least find out when it was manufactured. is there no car registration paperwork or anything? manual with the car? the rear bumper is the m-tech, but that doesn't mean it's a sport. those wheels don't look like what would have been on a sport. what options does it have (that they didn't strip)?
