Default OBD2 interfaces

We just purchased a 2005 VW Jetta - I know, but it was a very good deal - for my wife. I was wondering if any the diagnostic interfaces that work with the VAG-COM software for the VW's will work with my '97 ti. It would be nice to buy one interface for both cars even if I have to use different software.

Does any one know? They have two types, one that provides direct CAN access and one that does not. I don't think the ti has CAN in it, but I'm sure newer BMW's do.

Thanks in advance,

Don S.
