Cool Introducing X E Ryder & SAM - Hello!

Hello 318ti people,

My net nickname is X E Ryder and I've purchased a '95 ti that needs a little TLC. I'm duly impressed with the car even with 180,000 miles on the clock, it made a 3 hour drive home without incident!

My wife and I noted that in the VIN number it had "SAM" between the numbers, so she said when he was born he was named Sam. Funny, as now I know the decode for it, he has a few brothers I suppose.

In my time I have restored several vehicles, raced a few, and can do just about everything myself, though I prefer not to weld, or paint complete vehicles. It is my hope to benefit from the experience of you all here, and that in my travels I will find some neat tips to offer in return. I've joined up as a member - seems fair for all the help a forum can provide!

Perhaps I can be of help in the more technical areas - I'm a tech in several powerplants in Northern California, so tinkering is my career. Anyhoo, here is Sam...

He has H&R Sport springs, Miglia 16" wheels, K&N cold air intake, custom cat back exhaust, just got his windows tinted, and has a bunch of broken stuff the PO failed to concern themself with. In any case, he's now part of our family, and we've got a few boxes of parts on the way already to help his self esteem back to it's former glory.

Hope to meet you all soon. Best Regards!

This makes me happy to see another clean looking ti get rescued by a motivated individual such as yourself.
Welcome to the Org!
You'll find that this is a user friendly forum with limited BS. And, when it calls for words of reality...we have Cooljess76 to clean it all up. (you'll see)
Right on,
Sean

Hey thanks much, I picked it up cheap and figure I saved it from a much worse end - I just love these short notchy backed cars and after driving it, working on it I am really a fan!

Glad to hear easy on the BS - I really have no time or interest in anyone's e-peen lol.

Nice to see Sam has been adopted by an enthusiast... Saw that for sale locally, it seemed like a decent find...

Cool Questions, Questions!

Well being new to the family, I have a few questions as I'm just a bit overwhelmed as we can be with the first month of a rescued car. Anyone please chime in thanks!

* What section do you folks post your car's "Build Blog" threads?

* Who is your favorite internet seller of Genuine BMW parts?

* Where do you prefer to buy your aftermarket, yet good replacement parts?

* Do you have a favorite salvage parts source?

I don't think theres a specific area for build threads but i could be wrong. For parts Pelican Parts is good for genuine BMW parts, BimmerBum on here is great for ti specific parts and offers a discount to org members, I've had good experiences from BavAuto (can be a little pricey but good selection) Turner Motorsports has a lot, Bimmerworld is another fine source and I'm also fond of ECS tuning.

Hey thanks for the tips!

Well I have been busy chipping away at the needs of my car. Swapped both front hubs, dismantled and welded up driver seat upper frame, installed complete stereo (all was missing), took apart both doors to fix key/lock issues, swapped every filter and fluid, a pair of tires, obtained all missing oem spare tire/jack/tools.

Also picked up a Chilton manual and was lucky enough to snap up an OEM '95 owner's manual and all supplements in the black zipper case for $17 on ebay, got windows tinted.

My transmission makes some funny noise coming to a stop sometimes, guess it's in my future. I'm collecting up all the parts to replace the suspension, got a bit of a pile going, each payday ordering a couple more pieces.

I'm still driving it to work and I Love This Car!
