You simply don't leave the bleed screw out past the point where coolant starts oozing out. If you sit there and let it overflow for 10 minutes, you'll definitely have a mess on your hands. | | | 03-01-2008, 12:44 AM | #47 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold, if your water pump and thermostat are working properly and your coolant is properly topped off, you'll get a geyser if you rev the engine with the bleed screw removed. The idea is to not have any air in your radiator. This means that you should immediately see coolant coming out of the bleed hole as soon as you start to pour coolant into the radiator with the bleed screw removed. If you don't see coolant coming out of your bleed hole as soon as you start to add coolant, then you have air in your system. If you have too much air in the radiator, the expansion tank will read as though it's at normal level when in fact, your radiator has no coolant at all or very little. This is called air-lock. Now if your system is properly filled, meaning that the coolant is at the top of the bleed hole and the expansion tank reads normal, how could you NOT have a geyser if you rev the engine with the bleed screw off? The water pump pumps coolant through the engine and back into the radiator for cooling. If you rev the engine, the water pump speeds up and will shoot coolant out of the bleed hole. It makes perfect sense. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 03-01-2008, 12:51 AM | #48 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | If you want an example to simplify things, try filling a 2 liter bottle with a garden hose. Once it's almost full, attach a spray nozzle to the hose and blast water into the bottle. After you dry off, come back and tell us how you did it without creating a geyser. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 03-01-2008, 12:52 AM | #49 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | I think what he means is, That he doesn't remove the bleed screw completely. Rather he just loosens it a little and then lets the air out and waits for only coolant to run through. That is the way me and my dad do it. But I dont know if this is what he is talking about or not. O well. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 03-01-2008, 12:52 AM | #50 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 After you dry off, come back and tell us how you did it without creating a geyser. | it didn't work I think I did something wrong | | | 03-01-2008, 03:26 AM | #51 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Now if your system is properly filled, meaning that the coolant is at the top of the bleed hole and the expansion tank reads normal, how could you NOT have a geyser if you rev the engine with the bleed screw off? Thanks | | | 06-30-2012, 03:17 AM | #53 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by fugi318 HI cooljess..I think I did bleed out all the air out the system, I get real hot air coming into the cabin, but my temp does not hold in the middle, after a minute or so it starts raising, I did follow all the instructions to the T, and am getting frustrated, any suggestions of potential problems or did I miss something? Thanks | Could have a bad water pump, thermostat, temp switch, cooling fan, high speed relay, low speed relay. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
