I've gotta 97 with the sport package and cassette tape head unit and I'm wondering if the "plug and play" will really work. Anyone who's installed this thing? Do I need to buy any adapters? __________________ | | | 12-12-2007, 08:50 PM | #9 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | Quote: Originally Posted by BakeR318 Anyone know if this system is directly compatible with the ti's head unit? I looked at the Harman Kardon website and found some things that seem to contradict that. They have a wiring diagram that shows all possible wiring setups. Take a look here, and you can see why I would think that the power is given via cigarette lighter/audio system, the ipod is connected to the "brain unit," and the sound is processed via the head unit/third party CD interface. Unless I'm missing something, it looks to me like theres an option that allows you to send sound straight to the speakers, forgetting all the FM jazz. "If your stereo has an auxiliary input, you can connect the Drive + Play's audio output to it for the best possible sound performance." I interpret this as: instead of getting fuzz/static from using FM stations, you get CD-like sound because you bypass using the radio and go straight through the head unit. My question was does the 318ti have an "auxiliary input" so that I can connect it to my stereo directly? Sorry if thats completely, utterly confusing. I'm trying __________________ | | | 12-17-2007, 05:54 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Detroit, MI Posts: 585 | Quote: Originally Posted by thesk8nmidget nice let us know how you like it and post some pictures of it installed | I got the HK iPod thing installed!! But it is in my truck instead. It just didn't look right in the ti. No where to put the control knob with a manual. I was thinking about where the traction control would be if I had it, but it just looked so tacky. I opted for the JVC control unit that allows you to control your iPod through the deck. Everything is hidden and no extra screens. But the HK D+P is a really great unit. I got it installed just before the Chiefs game and it worked great. It looked way to out of place in the ti. | | | 12-12-2007, 08:49 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | i dont think the stock ti head unit has an input unless you can get an adapter to make it think its the cd changer. __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 12-12-2007, 08:58 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Damascus, Maryland Posts: 434 | Quote: Originally Posted by thesk8nmidget i dont think the stock ti head unit has an input unless you can get an adapter to make it think its the cd changer. | And what about connecting it directly through the 6 disc changer in the back? On the other hand, I'm sure it's better quality than most FM players out there, AND it has the screen and such..so it's still a steal at $20 a pop. I might still pick one up. __________________ | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
