Default Turbo M50 Project Underway

I'm going to swap in the Non Vanos m50 engine, and boost it.

Keeping the .org updated as much as possible.

Thanks!

This sounds awesome. You have to do just one thing for all of us, keep us posted. I have seen a couple monster sounding projects and they just disappear. So please, for the .org KEEP US UPDATED when ever you get the chance.

Have you taken into account the corrosive nature of E85 on your piston rings, seals, fuel system, etc?

E85 did some nasty stuff to the engine of the turbo FSAE car I worked on a while back.

ALL the German rubber in the fuel system will need replaced. Tygon I believe is the replacement. Ethanol is nasty on butyl rubber.

You should also consider a water separator on the fuel line. Injecting un-entrained water does wicked stuff under forced induction.

There is a product used by sprint car racers called Uplon by Klotz that you can mix in the fuel to protect from the alcohol induced corrosion. Its kind of like Stabil for Alcohol and it helps keep the pump and injectors lubricated.

Well, this project has been slow in it's process. But it's not dead, and that is why I am posting.

This is basically where I am at right now.

Been helping work on my friends Rally car quite a bit.

Just buttoning up the engine right now. Missing a couple little things like 2 woodruff keys, and the oil sump bracket. But I'll be able to finish the motor this weekend/part of next week.

Then it's on to the bolt on's!!!

Just had the oil pan hot tanked, and bead blasted.

Oil pan -10an turbo oil drain bung, welded on by a local speedshop!
