Also, get yourself a soldering iron :O That soldering gun is humongous, heavy and hard to control for a small job. __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . I have been wanting to do something like that for a while, only with a matrix of surface mount LEDs and a switching regulator controlling them. This would eliminate the large resistors and make the result burn-out proof. With a little calculation and careful placement, I bet you could also get a uniform, hot spot free, light rectangle. If you interspersed red and white LEDs, you could then switch over to red light as if the dome light changed color. In anticipation of someday actually executing this project, I have already extended the PWM signal going to the dome light so that it will ramp down to 0.5% instead of abruptly switching off LEDs at 10%. It might be about 25 mm / 1 inch long and a bit thick. Perhaps a couple 2W metal oxide power resistors would do better. They would be considerably thinner. | | | 01-11-2008, 06:00 PM | #15 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I did this to my ti a few years ago but with blue leds. The led bulb looked like the OEM one but with 12 leds inside of the bulb. I swapped all the interior lights out with leds, under the dash, glove box, domw lights and trunk light. Looks good man. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
