Default ZF vs Getrag gear ratio question

I found an M44 that I was looking for from a entire partout. I am considering getting the 5sp trans also but only if it is a ZF. Am I correct in understanding that all the ZF trans have a 1.0:1 ratio 5th gear? Does anyone have any idea if it will work in an E30? Will obviously change to a 2.96 rear axle if so.

The reason for this as I just discovered and you all may know, is after all the math is done, the ratios are closer on the ZF.

Both the ZF and getrag 5 spds used in the E36s have 1:1 5th gear. 1st - 4th are almost identical as well.

ZF is supposedly rated for more torque. The getrag weighs less.

ZF has shift pin issues that can cause the trans to stick in gears or not go into them at all. Somewhat easy fix but the trans has to be removed.

I don't think any M44 car came with a ZF trans stock, all the 318s and Z3 1.9s came with getrags.

Thanks for the info. Either trans will work, I just need to swap diffs to a 2.96since the E30 Getrag 240 has a .8 5th gear and I currently have a 3.64 open out back.
By my math, GT240 1st gear: 3.7 X 3.64 = 13.468 total.
5th gear: .8 X 3.64 = 2.912 total.

Ti trans ZF 1st gear 4.2 x 2.96 = 12.42 total - just a bit taller
5th gear 1.0 x 2.96 - 2.96- -just a bit shorter.

E30 gearing sucks. I the drop-off in RPM's between 1st and 2nd with a peaky low-torque engine is unacceptable.
